So, this weekend, this 1990 3800 Oldsmobile daily workhorse, suddenly develops a REAL BAD mechanical knock about a block from the house.
Sounds like a BIG impact wrench. Raised RPM, sound goes away.
Could not see anything hitting. (Hmmmmm)
Shut it down for the night.
Started it up the next day after it cooled down, no sound . . . Put the stethoscope on the belt tensioner, alternator, PS pump, AC, no sounds.
Shut it off. (Thinking it fixed itself
)
This morning, start it up, no sound, put it in gear, "CLACK, CLACK, CLACK". Shut it off. Trans / motor oil is good, not burned and at level.
Anyone have any suggestions / advice?
(No, it does not qualify for "Cash For Clunkers", Gas Mileage is too good!
