Now that I've praised the vitues of methanol injection in another thread, why is my overflow tank now filling up after I make a pass. I noticed it ws running a little hotter since I installed the fromt mount but only 180-190. It's filling up so much that I have to wipe it off the inner fender well. I've got it mounted on the drivers side above my air filter, zip tied to the radiator support. Plese don't tell me it's a blown head gasket pressurizing the cooling system.

Any help appreciated

Seems a little abnormal to me. 1 pass will only fill the overflow bottle about 1/8th of the way in my car.

Start pulling the motor out before its too late. Its 100% a head gasket just starting to leak. Keep beating on it, only if you have a tow truck handy.

Pull the plugs and see if they all appear normal. Pressurize the radiator with a hand pump.. all radiator shops use them.. and see if it holds pressure.

Lasty.. dumb question.. when is the last time you replaced the radiator cap?

I hope its not from 1985

I was hoping someone was going to suggest the cap. I don't know how old it is, it was on the car when I got it. Just seems odd I'm having cooling probs after installing the FMIC. Cap is easy enough to check out.

I also noticed a little more oil on the drivers side breather than normal. Usually it's just a light film. This time it was a drip. Coincidence?

Never got your PM. I'm guessing it's bad news though. Let's stay positive for now. Either way, I've got all winter to fix it.

Careful and dont buy a cheap cap. Quality is poor on these things. My suggestion is to buy OEM or AC Delco. Yes AC Delco has caps :).. that is where my last one came from.

Start on the easy.. work on getting complicated. Worse case you end up with a shiny new radiator cap :)

I appreciate your help. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to think my head gaskets "might" not be kablooey.

Sounds like a seeping head gasket to me. Mine has done the same thing the last two years. I run felpro 1007 locwires and one ring was just slightly out of round last year allowing combustion pressure to slip by & pressurize the cooling system. It did it again this year and I'm thinking the receiver groove on that hole is probably not perfect.

I'm gonna start simple with the cap and make a couple test runs and then go from there. If I have to pull the heads for gaskets, you better believe I'm not gonna put the stock heads back on.

Same symptoms as mine.

I had cometics on and blew those. I was running 26 lbs of boost though on alky! If U were running antifreeze in the motor U will probably have to go thru the short block. At least rod and main bearings like I did. Iguess antifeeze really eats up bearings when it mixes with oil. My oil didnt look bad at all until I stirred it up a little, at which point I was able to see it had antifeeze in it. So just checking the oil on the dipstick might not be a clear indication of how bad the blown gasket is. Good luck and welcome to the 11s.:frown:

U dont want to drive it like that.

If u are mixing oil and antifeeze, ur just doing more damage by test driving it. Do the tests that dont require driving the car. A compression check, and/or a coolant system pressure tester is the way to go. I didnt want to believe the motor was hurt either but its actually no that bad when U like these cars so much. Was ur car smoking at all?

Mine only leaks one way. Radiator holds pressure fine. I just opened the cap for the first time since saturday and had a lot of pressure still. Depending on where it is leaking you may be fine you may not. By all means try a new cap first though. Good luck.

No smoke what-so-ever. I'm gonna drain the oil and look at it really good before I start it up again. I will be very careful every step of the way. I'll also do the compression check and cooling system pressure tests.
