After reading so many of the stolen car threads I’ve become a bit paranoid to leave my car. I only drive my car for fun and never leave it. Today I’m going to drive it to work since I’m only meeting with customers. I will never be more than 100 ft from the car at any time, but I will be out of sight as I’m in homes. Des Moines is not a real high crime area so am I just being silly? Do you leave your car unattended?

I'm the same way...its never been out of my sight.....I'm sure I'm over reacting but I cringe everytime I read a new thread about somebody getting ripped off....Its my fun car so I don't drive it anywhere that I would have to leave it.......some of the looks I get from people just going down the road scare me....can't tell if they are admiring the car or thinking about jacking me....I take my friend .40 with me always!

i dont like leaving my car anywhere i cant see it. if the car is in my driveway and i go 2 houses up to talk to my neighbor i have to stay at the end of the driveway so i can keep an eye on it. I wouldnt be this way but people dont respect others people hard work. some idiot might come by and key it for the hell of it.

Gee.... I worry but not that much.. I took mine out with the wife and kids went to the movie... I worried about it. I left it parked close to the restraunt like we were eating not watching a movie even.... Are these cars that high on the thief list still ?

I do my 77 SE Trans-am the same way........ worry more about getting hit bad a dumb ricer trying to prove something most of the time....

Maybe I need to turn up the paranoid factor or something.

Another added Protection

Unplug the ecm plug under the hood near the battery when the car is going to be parked for a awhile without you.

I think we all are that way. Mines a big fricken pile of crap and I still never leave it outside. Always in the garage. I park it right next to my friends car if I take it to work, out in the open cause she has a nice alarm on it. If anyone walks next to my driver's side or her driver's side it long enough to walk the length of the cars it goes off. But I guess if it comes down to it I can't be that paranoid because I still haven't got a new trunk lock or a door lock key made yet.

I keep an eye on my car, but I'm not so paranoid I'm not going to walk into a store and let it out of my sight. I have a club, but don't use it. Probably should. It's my understanding these G-bodies are very easy to hot wire.

I'm probably as paranoid as anyone about my GN. I've got an aftermarket alarm, kill switches and mechanical locking devices, but here in Dallas, if they want it badly enough, they just pull up with a flat-bed wreaker and haul it off. there's not much you can do to prevent that. If I'm going to leave it un-attended I always try to park it where it would be difficult to get to it with a flat-bed.

Actually, I also worry more about getting in a accident. Crash parts are getting harder and harder to find and the insurance companies consistantly under value these cars.

Only problem with doing that is that you reset everything back to defaults when removing power, the chip then has to re-learn the tune, and also, a lot of the modern chips like Extenders, and TT chips have programable features that get lost when doing so.

relax

I have kill switches and park in a manner that would be impossible to flat bed it. Keep good insurance on the vehicle. (agreed value) I do not fret over what could happen. I say there is a greater chance you'll be involved in an accident. It bothers you that much, sell it.

im not so much worried about someone steailing mine i unplug the pump and a few other things. Now with the TT chip i can uplug my ecm or i will lose my settings. Im more worried about someone giving it a door ding or keying it.

Would love to hear some homemade ways of securing you Buick! anybody got any quick way of doing this?

Exactly! I get more for a stolen car that I can sell it for! Accidents bug me more than a theft. I wouldnt like it since I've had it since 88 but it is still a CAR!! Do you ever let your wife or kids out of your site? Seems they would be more precious!

I have always been paranoid. it doesnt help I had a dream someone stole it. Hows this for a nightmare.... I just finished parking a 1/2 block from my house during the day. As Im walking up the block I hear a GN (hooker muffler sound) and look back. I see the grill and say ohh its an 86 (like mine)cool i said. As the car rolls past I see my license plate and realize its mine.. I take chase only to watch it get away.. I swear the car never ran so good.. I woke up n cold sweat panicked.. since that dream ive been a nut.. Wheels turned column lock e brake pull fuses whatever it takes.. But as always the want it bad enough they will take it. I pray that it doesnt happen to us (tr owners) anymore but its more of a dream...

Well I made it home okay. No one stole my car and no one challenged me to a race either. It was good to be able to take the car for more than just a spin today. It was used for work! I got many looks and thumbs up! To compare my family to my car is just silly. Family first.
I would never put my family into storage for eight years. Sometimes you just need a little assurance. I need to call my insurance company and get an agreed upon value price of the vehicle.
Thanks
chad
