Picked up a 85 monte carlo ss cq trans any good? Im going to freshen it up with some ck goodies a little later on. I have a brf and a bq allready running. what are the differences between the bq and the cq. Could the cq give the same performance as the buick bq and brf.

And one last thing the converter has 9's or 6's stamped on it any info on that also would be apreciated.

PM bison or Chris, Jim. Be advised that Chris is going on vacation soon and won't be back until after September starts.

With the Cq your very close to the Bq but id replace the servo to an aftermarket. Maybe a couple hundred rpm more at WOT

OOPS!!! LOL Had a few tonight bison? I don't think you've ever done that before. Hope you have a good morning.

lol. now i made it look like you guys had too much to drink:biggrin: The cq should be a little more lively on kick down vs. throttle and have an earlier 3-4 upshift.

Picked that cq and converter up for 60 bucks it was a deal i could not resist. Bison what about that converter stamped with 6's or 9's on it, higher stall?3000 range

i know on the 700r4 converters its stamped 6 all the way around and that means its a 1,320 stall speed. Not sure if thats the same code for 2004r though.

Lower stall probably about 1600 if its out f a MCSS. The highest stall 12" converters are D5's that were diesel cores. They stalled around 2200. There is no way to know what D5 core you have from stampings. The converter approximate factory stall speed can be determined off the code on the sticker if its still there. Its been posted on here before

I didn't know they put the 2004r behind a diesel. Are you talking about the old Olds 350 diesel?

Im not sure what they used behind the diesels but a few 200 4-rs were used behind them. it doesnt really matter beacuse the converter cores GM used could have been from anything with the same spline on the stator. The loosest of the stock converters were the diesel core though.

Bison thanks for the info. Im gonna pull this apart and freshen it up real nice.Ck servo ,plate shift kit.Raybestos clutches steels and all the other goodies. It is going behind a fuel injected hot air engine.
