Hello eveyone, thanks for the help.
I'm trying to help an old fiend. His gn is currently at 25 psi of boost I checked for vacuum leaks and backed the adjustment of the external waist gate all the way out still no change. What should I do next? Thanks again!

I'm going to disassemble it and check, what make is this waist gate so I can find a 15lb spring?

You solved your issue. Open it up and change that worn out spring. Looks like an ATR gate. Not sure. Make sure the rod moves freely. Any bind in travel causes issues.

Is there a manual boost controller also connected? A worn out spring would net less boost. I would definitely remove the gate and check for smooth operation, could be sticking.

Thanks, I will be removing and inspecting. There is also a bleeding manual boost controller. I'm going to smoke test it on Tuesday to check for any air leaks.

The manual boost controller will raise or lower boost. Should be counterclockwise( lefty loosey) to lower.

You can remove the manual boost controller , connect the turbo straight to the wastegate, tuner style. This will let the wastegate use only the spring pressure for boost control. This will also let you know what spring is in the gate.

Well the first thing is to give you a basic introduction to how a turbo works!

The exhaust gases from the engine pass through the turbine housing of the turbo via the turbine blades, this in turn begins to spin the turbine. On the front end of the turbo is a Compressor wheel. This is located in the compressor housing with a pipe which is fed from your air filter. As the shaft begins to spin, so does the compressor wheel. This begins to draw air in from the intake, compressing it into the compressor outlet. The outlet is then fed through the car's intercooler and then on to the engines inlet ready for the engine cycle.

UHHH OK.I bet this solved his problem.

It has a bleeding type manual valve, not a ball and spring. Pretty sure clockwise is lower.

I will connect it directly to the turbo to simplify things.

Is there a vendor that sells a rebuild kit for the art style gate?

So I replaced the atr gate with a tial 38mm, boost still goes up to 20 psi with a 14.7 big blue spring.

I smoke tested the car it has no vacuum leaks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you still using the manual boost controller? What downpipe are you using? What turbo? Has the wastegate hole on the turbo and downpipe been opened up?
Can you post how it is connected?

I removed the downpipe and discovered the hole for the waistgate was about 25mm so I removed the turo and now I'm port matching the wastegate hole.

The tial gate is connected directly to the turbo, no boost controller.

Once I port matched the turbo to the downpipe, everything was happy.

I discovered today when the previous mechanic replaced the old turbo do to a bearing failure, the new Precision turbo was installed and then the over boost problem occurred.

Who ever ordered the turbo must not have specified that they needed a big waistgate hole.
