Just finished this combo and would like to do a comparison of what folks have accomplished with this combo to see how far I can go. Would like to see as much detail as possible but tires, boost level, chip, gas, weight w/driver are key in addition to the time slip details. I use a RWHP formula that factors in ET, MPH and weight w/driver. I also maintain a spreadsheet that compares how the car does between the 1/4-mile intervals and helps show where the car's strengths/weakneses are.

Sorry if it seems like I am doing it the hard way but with the weight and gearing differences in our cars, this is the only way I know to normalize it.

TIA

my car felt its best at 26# boost with the pte-51 and 26 degree timing chip on good fuel of course

if they would have lasted to make a pass i'd guess 11.20's(crappy traction) at 124

Little surprised that no one is willing to post a timeslip to help calculate RWHP, so let me pose the question a different way. How much RWHP can be expected with the following combo? Stock longblock with +.020 hypers, Champion irons, matching intake, JJ 62mm TB, PTE-51 @ 25psi, THDP elbow and 3" exhaust, MSD50s, FMIC & M/E.

TIA

In Charles Brook's great turbo comparison, Precision has an est HP rating of 580 for the 44 and 585 for the 51. What would have been nice is if one knew what state of tune it took to achieve that. Now, the Limit Engr rating for the 44 is 475hp  . Are these 44s the same? Is the limit of the 51 more like < 500 or does the chart have a typo and should say 575?

I recently made a pass of 10.90 @ 129.66 with a lousy (for me) 60' of 1.784. The HP formula I use factors in ET, MPH and weight and it spit out 473.6RWHP. I ran 26psi boost and what I am trying to find out is whether or not I am close to the true limit of this turbo or is there still more with tuning?

Fuel Pressure?

Red's, what fuel pressure were you running and what injectors do you use? I just bought a PTE 51 and am using 009's. Thanks Bro!

Posted time is with a 51, 009s, 21psi and iron heads with some bowl work. Not really tuned well either.

mine was on 50# injecters and Joe Lubrant chip

my motor hasent changed any since running with the ta-49 up till now with the 70-1 turbo except that i have now gone to 75# injecters but all my times posted were on the 50's and they maxed out when i run the 127 mph pass

my car with me weighed in the upper 3600's

3692# once when i weighed it but it wont the day of racing but weight should be close

base fuel pressure was around 43#

First off, read #1 & #2 below...

1) My car runs like crap. I've got a high RPM miss that I can't figure out.

2) I can't find my best time slip (11.38 @ 114 w/1.55 60'), so the one listed below is the best I have on hand now...

Code:
Cecil County, MD - 9/21/02
83* F, 96% humid., 29.88 A.B.

60'.... 1.617
330'... 4.680
1/8th.. 7.301
MPH.... 93.61
1000'.. 9.579
1/4.... [b]11.521[/b]
MPH.... [b]115.68[/b]

Notes:
- This is with a 2750 RPM launch (maybe 2.5# boost).
- Trans in drive with 5375 1/2 & 5425 2/3 shifts.
- 28" slicks at 18psi hot
- 26# boost at the traps.
- Convertor was UNLOCKED.

As I mentioned above, the car has gone an 11.38. However the MPH on that particular run was only 114.7 or so (see sig). The best MPH to date, unlocked, is right around 116.6. On all these runs the car has run like crap... and it still does now. Once I get it worked out I think it's got an easy "11 teen" at 119+ in it.

Hope this helps.

J Banning and Bob86GN, thanks for posting your times and it tells me I am right on target. You did not post your weights so I guessed at 3750lbs w/driver and JBanning came in at 476RWHP and BOB86GN at 451, impressive for only 21#.

J banning, I am using a 26x9.5x16 QTP but I have having a hell of time with them. I use to run low-mid 1.60s with 275-15 DRs and even got a couple of 1.55s. I upgraded the brakes and went to 17s and the 275/40-17s Nittos are a disaster, spinning up to the 330' if I let them :D (suspension unchanged). With the QTPs I cannot run less than 16-17psi or else the car wants to change lanes on the top-end with the big 17" radials on the fronts. 14psi in the QTPs netted me a 1.63 with only a 8psi launch but left a big racing stripe in my shorts. Guess I will have to go with bias-skinnies if I want to run 12psi or less. I noticed you run 18psi tire pressure. Do you also run front radials?

Back to the Precision rating for the PTE-51. Someone please tell me if I have this wrong. The turbo wheels matrix on gnttype.org says the 51 uses a T04E 60 trim compressor wheel. Max flow I can see for that compressor map on the Turbonetics website is 50lb/min which equates to 476hp, as per John Craig. What is so different about Precision's 51 that they can rate it at another 100+hp?

Anyone?

Sorry I didn't post the weight. I'm approx 3610-3630 lbs. depending on how much fuel I've got on board. I'll weigh it next time with a full tank so I know for sure (sending unit is bad).

Regarding the turbo specs, a month or two ago I called Precison about my turbo and putting a .85 housing on it. They told me that the PT51 uses a T350, 70 trim wheel. I'm running their .63 housing on it now.

Hope this helps.

Scottie: Here's the time slip I was looking for....

Code:
Cecil County, MD - 9/13/02
74* F, 96% humid., 30.41 A.B.

60'.... 1.552
330'... 4.557
1/8th.. 7.183
MPH.... 94.10
1000'.. 9.448
1/4.... 11.385
MPH.... 114.78

Notes:
- 5# launch (about 3000rpm)
- Trans in Drive
- approx 26psi @ traps
- Sunoco 116 fuel
- 17psi tires (Hoosier QT Pros)

With a combo similiar to yours, with the exception of a 63-1, my motor made just under 500 RWHP and mid 600 on torque. With my new car (TTA), it made 426 RWHP and 580 torque with a TE44, OE injectors, stretch IC, ATR 2.5" stock stlye DP and OE exhaust at 24 psi. The first car I mentioned ran consistant low 11 teens at around 123 MPH and went a 10.91 at 125.6 with a 1.51 short time. The 11 teens were at our ****ty local track and low 1.7's for short times. Hope that helps some.

Thanks, Folks.

I do not think I will try squeezing more HP out of this turbo, maybe just some fine tuning. Getting those 1.50s short times is what I need to work on as I am probably giving up .3 on the ET right now.

Update: I went 11.34 @ 119 with a 1.58 60' at Atco on 12/15/02. That was with the convertor locked mid way through 2nd gear.

Question: Has anyone gone in the 10's with a 51 in a full weight REGAL?

James I have a question on your runs.

With very close 60' times (1.55 and 1.58) and similar ET's (11.38 and 11.34) how can the mph be so different?

I see you locked the convertor on the 119 run, but since the 60' is virtually the same why didnt the ET drop. 114 seems very low for a 11.30 run also. You do have great short times.

Just trying to understand the relationship of ET vs 60' vs 1/8 time.

The 11.38 @ 114mph was with 24.5psi and the convertor unlocked. (Cecil County - Nov/early Dec)

The 11.34 @ 119mph was with 29psi(!) and the convertor locked. Traction wasn't as good, but the air temp was a little cooler. (Atco - Dec 15th).
