This is a video that corresponds with my post of http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/ge...01-so-heres-update-how-my-car-runs-track.html

And before anyone says it, I do have a line lock on the rear wheels, I set it during burnouts. Not sure why the lights are on unless the pedal just didn't come up all the way.

Anyways....if you notice on my launches, the tires have a tendency to squeal when I launch. On a few of the launches, yes I broke traction and didn't run a good time due to 60 ft.

However on my best passes, the 60 foots were in the 1.80's. Yet you can hear the tires squeal even when I launch and sometimes just shortly after launch.

Squealing tires equates to traction loss, right?

I had 20 psi in the M/T ET street radials that day. I was also foot braking on those launches.

Should I run a little less psi in the tires? Longer burnout? There should be no squeal...right?

LMK, planning on a last day of track day tomorrow. So I wanna get 'er right.

Thanks

How much boost are you able to hold on the line with the hydrboost?? What's your AF ratios with the wide band?? How much boost???

Your posi needs attention possibly. Both tires spin in the waterbox, however when there was spinning on the launch, only the right tire was smoking!! If you have air bags, add more air to the right, take some out of the left. When I was racing I had 20# in the right bag, and 5# in the left bag. If you don't have bags, get some.

On a well prepped track and a good hook, the tires will still make noise. It's usually kind of a growl though and not a squeal like you are hearing. Are you sure it's your tires? The M/T website does state short/clean off style burnouts, but at my track, the Mickey's need a little more heat so I do a slightly longer burnout and have had my best 60's this year. Just my .02, HTH.

This also happened to me this year. Had to flush the rear end fluid with new fluid and leave the limited slip additive out. Those clutches are sticky now again for a while at least...

TurboDave, can you eliminate the airbags with a good rear sway bar ie HR bar or do you think they still need to be used in addition to a good bar?

Sorry for the hijack...

Looks to me like you have way to much air in the tires and also I would remove the front sway bar.It looks like the front end hardly comes up.I have mine removed and its a DD running mid to low 7's in the 1/8.

How much air in tires and age ?

20 psi, tires are about 2 yrs. old

Per my boost gauge, 10 psi is the max I can hold off the line, however per my powerlogger, I've launched at 15 with no problems, but the one time I broke traction real bad, the powerlogger said I was at 20 psi launch. I was running 25 psi on all those runs but I've since backed it down to 23, AFR's are 10.2-10.8 on WOT per powerlogger.

Nope I don't have air bags. I don't plan to go back to the track after today because it will be gone and there's no oter tracks nearby, so are air bags even needed on the street?

I would say it's the tires - every time I launch they squeal as seen in the videos. How much of a burnout do they need? I usually get to 3rd gear with a whole smoke show going. Also what speed do you have yours spinning at?

What about just unhooking it?

Similar. I hit third around 70-80mph and I let off when the boost needle starts to climb as that seems to be when the tires grip. It spins with little to no boost and when it pulls close to 10psi or above, I release the line lock and rollout while easing off the throttle.

Just make sure you zip tie it up but if you do that its only for more bolts to remove it.Aalso its get the weight off the front end. That thing weighs about 25-30 lbs witch is good for about a tenth also greatly improves weight transfer.

Shaun

I think it's just bad track prep. Try again on a day more into the season. I never was able to break into the 12's below 105mph but that was on street tires. Car looks great by the way. Nice vid. I like that Huber Performance Mustang at the end too. I've seen that car before; 9sec, 4 cylinder, street car...

I understand...just that I found one day (was going to change bushings on sway bar to frame mount) that one or more of the bolts were stripped to where they wouldn't come out. :(

i've had better luck running drag radials at about 16 to 18 psi. 2nd gear for burnouts also

I was looking at the third run off the line it looks like the front tires are still dragging the brakes causing the rears to break loose. Could have some brake issues.

Well, if you're not going back to racing then forget the air bags, and stop worrying about tires, and track prep.

And, IMHO, DO NOT disconnect or remove the front way bar!! I wouldn't wish the kind of sloppy handling you're going to suffer on anyone. The only way your car will handle with ANY safety is if you've got something special in the rear like an ATR bar or some other special bar other than stock.

The reason your front end isn't rising is because of your crappy 60' times and launches.

I would agree on one thing, track prep probably sucked! But since your tires are spinning (tire), you should have tried launching softer, like 10# or less.

I was same place you are for ET and MPH ,read every thread(car wont hook)I was spinning right tire and best 60ft 1.8,pulled the clutches out, they were good bought a new S spring it was not as strong as the OEM bought a set of air bags ,before I installed them I found a thread on Hilwig sway bar, I bought it on Amazon and set Hoosier 28X9 . (My MT DR were 4 years old)Very next race I went 1.62 60FT 11.93 1/4 @110,I did add timing and boost but I finely had the traction . Went 12.6 12.4 12.3 11.9 from 107 to 110 .KYB shocks front and rear stock front sway bar. I'm ready for next season, My target ET was 11.90 bracket class .Got a brand new set of air bags in the box I will never use.

I'd use the line lock on the fronts so you can do a burnout without heating the rear shoes. Next thing is when you get to the line you hold the brake lightly and turn on the line lock. Then lay hard on the brake. This sends more pressure to the rear. Release lock and build boost. If your not going to go to the track to race then this is all for nothing, including airbags 20 right, 5 left, dr tire pressure and how much of a burnout...

Doesn't the valve balance out brake bias when you release the line lock. This is way the brake light come on because we instal it on the top side of the balance valve.are dose the valve believe the front line is broke and shifts the spool to the rear only?I wish I had installed mine on the down side of the valve then I would not have that moment with only rear brakes just a few light taps of the brake pedal and the spool shifts back to the center position,Sorry for the Hi jack on your good post I may be unclear on the hole line lock,I too had considered installing on the rear brake and use it off the line,I'm OK with it on the front know that I made my 11.90 goal

Well I finally cut my first 1.74 60 ft. I dropped the PSI in the MT ET street radials to 17 psi.

Pronto, just a heads up it's not I don't want to go back to the track, but the track is closing for good. Today was the last day, free race. And there's no other tracks around within a 50 mile radius so I figure I'm done until I move or buy a trailer.
