So recently buttoned my car back up with the rebuilt te45a (thanks bison). Have a guy who has what looks like a very clean low mile pt6262 3" .60 intake and 2.5" .63 outlet.
Question is what would the differences be between the turbos? I have a fairly basic build (caped bottom end, bored .30 with speed pro pistons, ported irons with matching intake, precision front mount, 50lb injectors, 3" downpipe)

Also what would a good 6262 be worth? Looks very nice, exhaust side looks very clean with all he black paint on it and no pitting, so makes me think it's fairly low miles. And it's a journal bearing turbo not dbb.

Only advantage to the 6262 might be a bit quicker spooling. That 45a is good well in to the 10s. The only reason I went away from the 45a is I wanted stock appearing and the MFS 6262 that Bison set me up with works great.

The person to ask would be bison. He seems to be very knowledgeable when it comes to turbos. TE45A has been in the 9s.

From what I've been told by a few folks that know, a 45a will move enough air to put a 6000rpm Buick motor full weight in the mid-130's.

I'd guess it's lazy next to a 6262 but the 6262 is likely only a 130mph turbo tops and may take more boost to get even there.

I bought the 6262 so once I get it in I will let you know. My te45a seems like I takes a bit to build boost and since I'm only running 18 pounds, feels like I might try a little something different to see info can get boost quicker. I don't think the big front mount is helping either.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 45a on my AC 9" nlu, but didn't get enough time to really evaluate it on my ptc 9.5 before I blew a hg on that motor.

Guess it really just depends on your goals. If high-10s is what you're after then I bet you made a good move.

My te45a is the same way. It has a little lag and then bam it boost like a monster. I was only on 18 #s at the time and pump gas. I have a 9 inch art car non lock up 3200 converter. I am thinking of trying the precision 6466 turbo. But I am gonna let the 45a rock out. What exhaust housing do you guys have on your 45a. I have a .63 precision which I feel is the reason why it has a little lag. I heard the precision housing are actually bigger than .63

I believe it's a 66mm, I really think my converter is holding me back a lot. I really need to get into a 3200 stall, trying to figure out info should do a lock up or non lock up

I have a 3200 lu and I like it, but if I could go back and do it over I'd buy a ptc nlu.

I have a 45a with q-trim wheel and .85 hsg. Spool is a little soft compared to .63 precision I did have on but pulls harder on top. I did drive a friends [turboplow] t/r with fresh 109 build and 6262 turbo and WOW. This car on 24# pulls very hard! I was very impressed!

Funny how combinations differ and the differences in performance. I was considering a 6262 earlier this year but my combo runs so damn good I kept thinking WHY CHANGE IT and my mechanic agreed. See sig below but I have an old school TA53 turbo that spools so quick there is never traction in 1st gear. So I replaced the old SMC alky kit with a Julio progressive setup, replaced the 55's with 83's and a new TT chip. Right now I'm sitting at 24 lbs boost on 93 and alky with no knock and 800 fuel on the scanmaster. Scares the crap out of me on the street. Don't know why that turbo runs so good but it always has.

Agreed with last two statements. I don't brag about running a TE44 as it has low cool guy factor, but it's a winning combo! You just don't need much more unless you're trapping close to 120mph.

What were the results here? Has the 6262 became the new TE-45a. Looks like Bison has shown his 6265 to be just as good if not better than the 45a.
I'm stuck between the 45a with a Garrett housing and Bisons 6262 with a precision housing.... Anyone want to chime in?

Personally if trying to run the 45a out or any of the above id use the largest ex housing I could get my hands on. The .96 or .81 t4 tang comes to mind but the .82 Garrett or any precision ex housing will get it done. The taller turbine needs the bigger volute to work properly. Yes it will spool faster with a Garrett .63 but you're not going to trap 135mph with it unless you are dumping ex pressure somewhere (besides your internal gate flapper) after it's spooled. If you're looking for a 125mph turbo any of them with a Garrett .63 will do well. The 6262 or 6265/66 will spool much faster with a Garrett .63. About as fast as a ball bearing cartridge even if a journal.
