i saw a thread that had them but i can't seem to find it now.
I am looking to replace the stock flanges (what ever its called) to the cross over pipe on both sides with V-Band clamps.
Anyway what size V-Band Clamps to get?
my Welder told me to get the ones that would slip right over the end of the headers VS. one that gets butted end to end.
and
What brand to get, if it matters?
Thanks for the help guys.

There is no way to slip anything on the stock headers unless you welded extension pipes on them and shortened the crossover. Sounds like a lot of $ spent that will net nothing.

The only thing i want to net is no more leaks from the cross over to header connections.

Chances ar ethe driver side manifold is distorted from over tightening. Replacing it along with the crossover will fix it

i tried 3 different sets of headers and 4 different cross over pipes i put all kinds of paste on the connections and also tried them all with out paste and they all leaked some more then others but they still leaked.
So at this point V-Band clamps it is.
Can't keep trying the same thing and expecting different results?????

I can look at a crossover and manifold and tell whether it not it will seal before even trying it. If the flanges aren't crushed they seal.

Where would you even use those on a stock setup. If you have headers that have uneven flanges get either a better set of used ones.use felpro 1400 gaskets and most importaintly get a TA performance crossover pipe. Stock crossover pipes are horrible after all this time so finding a used one is impossible that will seal correctly.

Will take some work to put them on a stock manifold. And all v-band clamps are not created equal. I have not had much luck with cheaper ones after taking them apart a few times, the band stretches enough where it doesn't seal back after a few undos. The more expensive stainless ones with a solid outside band and a tight inside v work great, they are about $50+ for 1 IIRC. Jegs and Summit carry them. All said and done you may be able to find a set of aftermarket headers with them already on there for similar cost of adding them. The old KenneBell set I have have been on my car for over about 18 years and not a single issue.

OK
I think (most likely) i am going to destroy a set of stock headers by attempting this my self.

What do you think about going about it this way?
1- Get one of my long blocks onto an engine stand.
2- Install the headers with bushings in two of the bolt holes (per side), also going with copper gaskets.
3- Cut the flanges off of the headers.
4- Tack on one half of the V-band flange onto the header
5- Assemble the bottom half of the V-band flange onto the one already tacked up to the header.
6- On the driver side tack on a flex coupler onto the bottom half of the V-band flange.
7- Then use pre-bent pipe to make up the rest of the way to the driver side.

All final welding will be done by a good welder (not me)

2- Bushings = to line up the ports
2- Copper gaskets = i have never had any look either way so i might as well use them.
6- Flex coupler = To line up the headers onto another block - Decked, resurfaced heads, thickness of head gasket what ever OR Use/ make a two piece crossover with a slip connection and have that as the +/- .

Yes, not needed but neither is most of the shit we do to these cars.
thanks for you help guys.
