I talked to a friend that was at the track today.... there is a 4 day race every yeart at the track in Hattiesburg, MS... called Fat Tuesday. This is in parallel with the annual ritual in annual New Orleans. Anyway.... a local racer was piloting another guys Mustang.... and all I know is it hit the guardrail... and he died....

Just lift his family up in prayer.

Very sad news to hear.
Any updates on who it was would be greatly appreciated.
My prayers go out to his family, no matter who it was.
I know all too well about witnessing a racers death first hand at the drag strip.

You probably know him Pat... it was Scott Williams I think Andre said........ former employee of Wynne Speed. I don't rember him specifically.... but might would have recognized him if I saw him. My heart goes out to his family.

HOLY S(&*#%^@&*()

If that is true, he was a very close friend of mine.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Oh no, please say this is not true.

Wow, that is just terrible.. My thoughts and prayers are with his family:(

I can not believe this....
Please no, not Scott.

Scott was a good friend of mine and this really hurts...
:( :(
Please everyone pray for the Williams family and his wife Blaire and her family and friends. All I can think about right now were the good times we had, all the races and fun times. I helped him get his job when we were at Wynne Speed. Helped him with his cars, always tried to be there with him when he was racing, and always stressed the importance of being safe.
This hurts...
Please everyone out there, if you race, please race safely.
And make sure to tell the one you love how much you really care about them.....
:(

Sorry Patrick. I did not know Scott personally. I didn't see your pm until this morning but got a call from some friends at the track last night. From what I was told, Scott was in a grudge race so I'm assuming from the details he was racing another car. This was not his car but someone locally he drives for. As most of you know a grudge race is for money, lots of money most of the time. I was told Scott was fighting the car for most of the pass which is another reason I'm assuming it was a big money race. You try your best not to lift when there's thousands on the line. He crossed the centerline and hit the metal guardrail after making a 5.3 pass. The guardrail laid over like most metal rails do and the car went airbourne striking a huge metal H beam with the driver door. The car was ripped into 3 different pieces, Scott was tossed an estimated 100 feet from the car. The impact pulled the helmet and shoes off of him. The car had a roll cage out of mild steel and I hear it was a quality chassis. The problem is the metal guardrails and the huge beams holding the scoreboards. Had this been a concrete wall so the car stays on the track there's a 99% chance Scott would still be here.

My heart go's out to the family and freinds. RIP Scott.:frown:

RIP buddy.

This is the only picture I've got of Scott (middle) Ted (left) and myself (right) at Lena drag strip back in 1999.

Scott was the type of person everyone liked to be around. So full of life, loved to be right in the middle of all the action. He was a heck of a driver, actually, one of the best I've ever known and I've known/know some good ones. His love of drag racing was contagious. He always had a way of making you smile.
I will never forget him....

May the good Lord be with the Williams family and his wife Blaire and her family during this hard time. I know I will see my friend again someday....

Goodbye for now Scott.

Sad day. My brother called me last night and told me the news. Scott was a good guy..

That track is something else. I've seen more wrecks in Hattiesburg than any other track. Last year my friend flipped his car there. Not saying it's the track's fault, but the place has bad luck.

Sorry Pat,

VERY SAD DAY IN THE RACING WORLD.

Like Patrick said anyone who ever met him liked him from the minute you spoke to him. He was one to leave a lasting impression with everyone and a smile on your face.

R.I.P.
Scott M. Williams

Damn, that really suckes! I didn't know him at all but I feel your pain, he looks young and that makes it way worse. I had one of my ex-apprentice buddies hang himself less than a year ago at age 22 and it still stings bad and will for along time to come. Best wishes to his family.

Does anybody know how fast the car was? Was he driving an 8, 9, 10 second Mustang. From the looks of the wreck, it must have been pretty fast. My prayers go out to his family.

That's terrible news, the guy looks so young in that picture. My condolence go out to his wife and family, I could only imagine what they must be going through. Rest in peace young brother. May god take you into his arms and embrace you!!!

The car belonged to another racer and was a low 8 second capable stock suspension Fox body Mustang. On the last pass, it had gone through the 1/8th at a 5.30 @ 138.
A trust fund has been setup for his wife and family.

Guest Book - Scott Michael Williams

My parents went to the wake last night, they said that there were at least 500-600 people in attendance. A tremendous out pouring of support for Scott and his family. The funeral is scheduled for today at 11am cst at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton.
