Ran 8k mile new stroker on low oil to where oil pickup started losing pressure when braking. Damage?

Always had 60 pounds of pressure which I watch like a hawk but basically was reusing the same very little oil. Had leak and dipstick kept showing same reading so I didn't think leak was bad (since have fixed) but must have been burning off oil since it was being continually reused. Realized today when oil pressure dropped from 60 to 20 pounds on braking it was low on oil and pickup wasn't getting any. Has never been under 30 before. added over 3 quarts. Holds 6 with big filter. Girdle must be scrapping dipstick and putting oil on it.

Anyway, always good pressure, but shit burnt oil for a while I'd imagine. Amsoil signature 10w-30 with largest oil cooler summit offers and the extended oil filter.

Think I did any major wear to it or damage? Runs fine and smooth, but the oil was smelling burnt and obviously super low. I'm an idiot, I know.

cut the filter open.

losing oil pressure on braking probably didn't hurt it, but if you were going WOT and were losing pressure you may have hurt it.

check your turbo for axial play also. I had a similar thing happen many (many) years ago and only hurt the turbo thrust bearing.

Car has only been wot twice and that was last year when attempting to tune. Boils tires at 70 mph and just isn't safe. Never goes above 15 pounds and other than today has never lost pressure, just was using same Shitty burnt oil over and over which is my main concern. It wasn't really that burnt but did smell a little burnt.

If it was just for a while, it should be ok. Had an Iroc that I had a "Built 350" built for it, and they didn't have the pick up tube in correctly, It would drop pressure when braking. A few weeks of that and I needed a new motor, this was when I was 18 living out of state, no judging, lol

My main concern is it probably went a 1000 miles of daily driving with low oil level meaning same couple quarts of oil was being repeatedly cycled through the bearings, heated up and broke down, which therefore concerns me I did undue wear to the bearings or cylinder walls. Granted it is good oil and I use a 10 by 15 oil cooler, but obviously the oil stil boiled off as i fixed the leak a month ago. Just has me sick to my stomach.

As Bob already stated, cut the filter open to ease your mind. Probably did no damage at all. Good luck

doing it tomorrow. I also have a huge magnet on the filter. Crosing my fingers. All the money I have in the motor it really has me upset at myself.

When you're only running 2 or 3 quarts that little oil is constantly in contact with the bearings and engine. Think of it as running your engine with half the Coolant.

:yuck:How long have you been using Amsoil ? When it was used in 2 stroke snowmobile engines (2 stroke oil) it had a "different" smell to it.

If it were mine I would take the filter apart and then drop the pan and look at a front and a rear rod bearing and a main bearing or 2 just for the piece of mind. :eek:The pan is an easy remove and the only cost is a gasket and maybe a dab of silicone. That's pretty cheap insurance. Do you know why it is using/leaking oil??

The pan is a nightmare 12 hour job. Girdle! Been there done that for leaking gasket. Motor had to be jacked up 6 inches and even then I barely got the pan out. Not happening, lol. Oil analysis will tell me everything. Just makes me sick I was misreading the dipstick because of oil from scraping Girdle.

I too have a girdle and found the dipstick does better when you put it in upside down.
