Rearend?

what rearend is on an 84 na regal. 7.5 or 7.625. i need to get ring and pinion gears so i need to know this. Also are the ring and pinion gears the same for both cause on summit they list them together and seperate

IT is a 8.5 ring gear that is ttype or grand national

na= naturally aspirated (no turbo)

I'm pretty sure it is a 7.5 for all the na regals. I have one here that I took out of an 85 na regal that is a 7.5" and has a 3.42:1 gear ratio.

If you're using the stock carrier it's a 7.5 but if you're changing the carrier you can change to the larger one.

7.5 and 7.625 are exactly the same carriers and Ring & Pinions. GM must have figured out they weren't using the correct way to measure the ring gear some time around 1985. Really that's only a 1/8" of an inch. Not much of a difference that's worth bragging about anyway.

Thanks Eric. I didn't know that. What gears are you looking for? I've got a set of 3.42 waiting to come out of a camaro rear end at the housing if you are interested.

Sorry to hear that. All this needs is new pinion bearings and the carrier would've been ready to install. I put new bearing on the carrier for a customer and it was never picked up so I'm keeping the disc brake set up for myself. Just haven't gotten around to taking it apart yet.
