Remember when Ebay was good?

I remember a time when you could go on Ebay, type in grand national and find some good stuff at decent prices. Now thousands of items come up and they are for the most part junk or the very few descent items are over priced.

What about all these dick headed parts sellers that include Grand National as a keyword in all their ads. No matter what the part is for. Clogs up the search. I hate that.

Yep, lotta junk. But, buying OEM parts are in such demand these days it has risen the price of just about everything now. Even the JUNK.

I remember when I'd do a search for gun parts and could find just about anything. Type Mauser in the sporiting goods section and you barely get a page of stuff. The search for any kind of buck part is clogged with so much friggin junk it just sucks.

My beef with eBay is back a few years ago I could search what all was good for sale by private owners local to me. All i'd have to do was type in my zip code and search a 25 mile radius. I found a few "hidden" gems there.

Now when I try typing in my zip code and doing a 25 mile radius search, every damn car lot, new or used, has their whole damn inventory on there. So now I have to sift thru countless ads just to see if someone has a long lost gem locally for sale.

Also I'm not fond of the idea where now the buyer can leave bad feedback but the seller cannot. So if someone wins my auction and fails to pay up i can't warn other eBayers.

eBay has gone down hill as they chase the $. I check AMC parts every day. This time last year on any one day my standard AMC Parts seach would return an average of 1800 listings an average of 250 new listings a day. Today when I do the same standard AMC parts search I get 18,350 listings or 2500 new listings a day. The vast majority is junk like the 50 listings a day for the $10 Group 7 oil filter with only $12 shipping each no discount for multiple purchases, give me a dozen at that price. Or the 10 listings for the $9.99 license plate screw set (2) for $9.99 plus $11.99 shipping, give me a box at that screaming deal price don't worry shipping will be calculated at checkout and again no discounts for multiple purchases (these are actual listings people). Like I can't get a Purolater oil filter at Auto Zone for $3 + tax. eBay has a deal with these guys for an all you can post monthly for one low price so they clog up the listings with junk and we have to try and sort through it. Have you noticed how long a page takes to load or how slowly the page scrolls? That is because in the background each listing has a ton of meta data associated with it. The vast majority of the meta data deals with the item's location so you can do a tailored search for those license plate screws within 25 mi of your house. Give me a break. They are about to ruin a good thing and then eBay's management will have an emergency meeting to try and figure out what went wrong.

I kinda chuckled when I saw this thread today, I got onto ebay friday evening because I hadn't seached it for months. Soon as I seen 70+ pages I was like.....DONE. As said above, it has become a joke to me anymore. It is sad because a few years ago it was really nice finding used OEM parts for my 87 TRX 250R. Thank goodness for the for sale section here!

X100 on everything posted above. Ebay used to be like a great swap meet or garage sale/flea market where you could dig around and find some cool stuff and things you were actually looking for. It used to be almost like an adventure. Now, I rarely go there and when I do, I remember why I rarely ever go there. It's pages upon pages of repeat posts for junk that we don't want.

Is it really necessary for the same vendor to have 50 identical ads? I guess it's all about the money. Just seems as if they keep going this route, people will stop visiting, stop buying ans slaes will dry up and these vendors wil go away and ebay will die... Doesn't make any sense to me...

I actually started my business on Ebay about a year ago. I still have the store and sell the odd thing, but I soon became disappointed in the way Ebay kept raising the fee structure. I get far more satisfaction from my website and it's much more economical to say the least. As a merchant, the only time Ebay works well for me is in the late Fall, closer to Christmas. Even then, there are so many unrelated items in all categories that it's a hassle for the consumer. I used to really enjoy Ebay, but not so much anymore.

I used to buy and sell a lot on Ebay as well. I only go on to look at the GN's for sale now, I dont even bother with the parts.

I have been meaning to ask, who is the assclown with the username "gnpowermasters" from Norwood, PA on Ebay? He's like an overpriced spawn of Dennis Kirban. He sells the same crap Kirban sells for even more money.

I am now dealing with consignment stores to get rid of my stuff.
