Kind of nervious this morning because I'm going to run the 8.49 Index race at the TurboBuick.com 2010 National Event. I''ve never raced at any event, so this is all new to me. I've detuned the car and it's running very consistant, had a 8.50 pass and two 8.44 passes. I've turned the boost down just a tad and hopefully that'll put me right in the 8.5 range. So far there's 3 intercooled cars in my class and they all broke out during qualifying.

The only other hotair I've seen at the event is Dave Young with Silver T-Type who's been working on installing a Razor Alky kit during the event and was finally tuning it yesterday.

I'd be really nice to win the $500, so wish me luck!

De-tuned

Well you said de-tuned so what you running nowadays anyway? You said 8.50 index that's equates to 13.20ish in the quarter. For me that's about 15psi on straight pump gas and that's really cutting it close.

Honestly I'm not sure anymore. My personal best was a 7.76, but I changed one of my meth nozzles and it threw off my tune. I ran a 8.06 a few days earlier, but I was having issues with it running lean and was getting a butt load of knock. Currently I'm at 18 Lbs of boost and pretty bad 60' times (around 2 seconds). They are running a 7 second delay pro-tree, so it's difficult to judge how much time you have to build boost.

Just got home and to let you guys know I didn't completely let the hotair community down. Out of 5 cars that entered, I came in 2nd place. I was in the final race with Scott Lambert and he beat me fair and square. I'm still $250 for taking second and had a great time!

Congrats buddy! You made the money! It was great seeing you again as always:biggrin:

Thanks you very, very much for a great event Shane!

For all that missed this event, it's was top notch! Richard Clark's knowledge and resources are nothing but the best. All the vendors were accessible during the event to answer any questions about their products. Clint did a fantastic job organizing the whole event and every ran very smoothly.

Next year's event will be even better and you'll really be missing out if you don't attend.

Eric
You took a Hot Air car and de-tuned it to run an 8:49 class. As far as I am concerned you represented us Hot Air guys well. Mine probably wouldn't run a 9:49.

GOOD job Eric!! Congrats!
Did they have a 12.5 class? If they do, maybe I can run next year.

Thanks Guys! I hope to have it in the 7.49 index class next year. After logging a ton of passes down the track, it's pretty clear there's a lot I haven't brought to the table with my mods and it's all just in getting the tune nailed.

Tommy, it was great seeing you again! Let me know when you want to meet and get that turbo from me.

Congrats on the runner-up, Great job of representing the hot-air community,
I didn't get a chance to speak to you, but I watched you run all day, you did
a great job of driving...........congrats again!!

Thanks Mcnracing!

Yeah, I imagine a lot of people saw me go down the track last week. I probably made somewhere around 20 or more passes and my car has a unique sound when going WOT. When the external wastegate opens up it sounds loud like “BAWHAAAAAAA!!!”.
On Saturday I started to having regular conversations with the guy in the timeslip shack. First time I spoke to him I had a frown on my face. He asked “What’s wrong?” and I replied “Went too fast, trying to get it consistent for the 8.49 index race” (I ran 8.3 ET). He made some suggestions to me and I said “See you in a minute”, hot lapped it and cut another 8.3 and frowned again, more suggestions and another “See you in a minute”. I finally nudged the boost down a tad more and made a 8.58 ET pass and decided that was close enough.

Yesterday I used my winnings to buy one of those ISAC Alky and Boost controllers from Shane and Jay Carter. I plan on installing it this coming weekend. Hopefully that’ll make me deadly consistent at the track, plus tuning with Alky should be super easy.

Hey Eric, Let me know when you install yours. I bought on about 4 months ago and have not been back home to install it yet. I'd like some feedback on it. Maybe you can give us a play by play on the install and set up.

Thanks, Pete

Sure Pete, I just received the unit in this afternoon. I've done a quick read of the instuctions and there's a far bit of wiring that I'm going to need to do. I'm still waiting on the two boost solenoids to arrive that I ordered, so that'll give me some time to come up with a wiring/mounting game plan.

Eric

I didn't get much done when the 8.49 was running, I kept having to stop and step up to the bleachers so I could see ya run, you did great. Wish I had mine sorted out so I could have run....but it was still a good time down there.

Congrats on hitting the money!

Thanks Dave, it was great meeting you. Good luck on getting the alky tuned.

Alky was tuned, and then I got sick of the mystery turbo so I pulled it and put that rebuilt stocker on in its place...... man whoever put that thing on had it rigged up.....it was bad, they had some short adapter on it and it didn't fit the housing so they slid a piece of some kind of high heat rubberish tubing over it and used that to fasten it to the intake.....good thing was the stocker popped right on and fit like a charm, although its only good for about 12lbs of boost but its a solid unit works good, guess it time to shop for a bigger one that will actually fit in the stock position without having to rig a bunch of stuff. The mystery turbo once off had big left and right play and some in and out, it was starting to blow oil on the intake and exhaust sides, so it was pretty much done for. I'm gonna have to research to see what kind of turbo I can put on there without a lot of fab'n. know anyone with a TA33c for sale?
