RJC Power Plate, is this worth the investment? I am new and inundated by the bolt on's. Just try'in to perceive fact from fiction. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't make it my very first mod, but I've been running one for many years. I believe it has helped me run a little more boost with no knock than I would have otherwise. Maybe something to add after you've done the more critical mods like hot wired full pump, etc.

Rest of my combo is in my sig if it helps.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using Turbo Buick

There is a great read on GM high tech performance website called "turbo buick basics" parts 1-10 or 11 (just do a search on the title). Shows you what some simple bolt ons are worth, I'm working my way through it now on my 87. I'm down to the transmission rebuild and coverter part and have run a 12.301 et. on 100 octane with the stock turbo still @ 21#'s, stock hot wired pump, and the 4" big mouth cold air. As Mike metioned above fuel pump hot wired and valve springs and a cold air kit are great mods for the money and a Turbo Tweak chip of course!

I have run one for years. I spray a large amount alcohol so I can't say it helps with knock. Alky does that. It equals air flow among the cylinders. How much difference it makes? Tons of opinions out there.

some people love them
some hate them
some fast guys WITH them
some fast guys with OUT them
I have one But does it REALLY make a difference????? i have no clue.

I was very skeptical at first. I bought one back when I was running 17-18lbs of boost with a street chip and 93 octane. I would occasionally see 1-2 degrees of knock without the plate. WITH plate it seemed to knock less and run the exact same time at the track. Now I too have alky, but my car runs well the plate has never seemed to be a hinderance.

If your producing less than 600hp, I think it is a good idea to use one for the equal distribution of air. It's my understanding, if you are pushing more than 600hp, the plate is not necessary, because you are moving a sufficient amount of air.(?) I believe the controvercy over the use of the plate stems from the use of alchy condensating and puddling in the intake, causing unequal distribution. Leaning out the front cylinders and causing disasterous results. There are several guys on here that can testify to this w/their own experiences. This is in cooler weather now. I was more fortunate in my experience in my less than 500hp engine, when the alchy cooled the charge to the degree that it cancelled the boost and the car did a nose-dive.

It's used to prevent rear cylinders leaning out,you use it to redirect air more equally in the intake.,an other small benefit, it adds "very small" amount of cooling to the TB,like heat rizer, due to more gaskets. There good cheap investment, they make All kinds of shapes for different applications.
