running rich

So I take a look at my muffler and the thing is completely black on the inside. I clean it out and in the next few days it gets black again. I have a feeling I'm running rich and I'm not sure why. I cleaned my filter (AEM CAI), so that's not it. Anyone have a similar problem that they solved?
