Looking for opinions here. I can read and read, but my eyes hurt. :) I am building an 87 GN mild pro-touring build. A 99% street driven car built for autocross if necessary. I know most on here are drag racing, but my requirements are a bit different. I am shooting in the realm of 450whp max. I don't plan on going more yet as I cannot afford to break anything. About a year ago, I picked up a Precision 6262 billet wheeled turbo. Of course I have not yet run it yet, but I wondered if it is overkill. Sure, it will do what I want it to, but I am wondering if I can install a smaller turbo to net me quicker spooling(for more fun on the street), yet still reach my goal of 45ohp. It doesn't need to be stock appearing. I've read about the TA49 being a bad arse street turbo. I'm not sure what the equivalent is for a non-stock appearing, but I would like to have a ported 4" compressor housing etc. but a 3" inlet would be fine as well. Oh, and I forgot to mention, I currently have a 3200 stall converter. Anyone out there got any solutions for me?
UPDATE: Bringing this back, because for about the 10th time in my life, I'm changing direction, but this one I am sticking with. I did forget to mention that I want to do this with 93 pump gas, NO RACE GAS, NO ALKY. I am also going to sell the converter to get a lockup, have a stroker built, so this changes everything. Would love some more opinions. I'm looking for some quick spooling fun on the street, that can maybe turn an 11.50-11.90 on the strip. Again, all on 93 pump gas and NO alky. Possible?

If the motor is all stock I think the TA49/TE44 or equivalent units would be a lot funner on the street.

Imo 6262 is overkill for 450 horse. TA49 with alky decent timing and 25 psi will surprise you

What engine operating range? Assuming in and out of the throttle s lot. A smaller ex wheel would increase spoolup and smaller compressor will keep you off the surge line. I should have a cea5557 with a Garrett .63 within a couple weeks. It will spool very fast

no,i ran a 10.5 3200 stall on a ta49 with .63 housings from pte and garrett car went 11.1 on drag radials it was a great street combo.a smaller ex housing on your 62/62 may get you where you want to be,the 44/49 on the stock motor is a nice combo

What the heck, give your 6262 a try, I'm just saying...... you already own it, so what do you have to lose? I have a good TE-44 on the shelf that I can't bring myself to selling, I liked it that much on the street...

That is kinda what I am figuring. ;)

What rpm? What cam? If you increase the engine speed you can get a much higher mass flow through the engine without raising the cylinder pressure and octane requirement. More mass flow requires more turbo. With a small hyd cam you are going to limit the mass flow.

God I hate this website. my post is blank huh. Well, I guess I'll retype. Since the car will technically be built for autox, I would imagine to shoot in the 3k-6k range, but I of course do not want to lose any driveability below that either for the street which I don't think I won't. Anyhow, I plan on a PTE front mount, stroker kit, roller cam, iron ported heads/intake(assume champion for now) etc. I don't have the cam picked yet, so I guess that would be another question as well to go with the new turbo.

To be honest, I can't say. I won't do it that much if at all. Reason I am building it this way is because it is for the street, and 99% for the street. I can't afford to break anything, let alone get the damn thing running. That is what marriage & kids do to ya! I just gotta get some patience.

I hear ya, got two kids with one more on the way, my car hasn't moved in 3.5 years.

Yeah. I have definitely toned things down. I bit off more than I can chew building two cars, but no more of this shooting for 10's crap. I'm being a bit more realistic considering I will be on the street 99% of the time. Not to mention, I can't afford to build two cars that fast. two cars at 450-500hp will be fine for me, plenty fun, and give peace of mind that I won't break anything. :)
