Is it a good idea to shift a 200r4 into fourth at the end of the quater mile to eliminate engine braking??Thanks

Kevin

if your running a 3.42 gear on a 28 inch tire you will slow down.you should be able to make it to the end in 3rd,unless the converter is too loose.

You will have to hit the brakes harder if you do. I leave it in 3rd

The reason I am wondering is,in my experience it is better to keep engine rpm lower after the traps especially when braking because the oil sloshes to the front of the pan:eek: .I don't like using the engine as an engine brake. In our superstocker we lift, shift to neutral and shut engine off,but this is different and not all tranny;s can go to neutral safely. Both tracks I race at have lots of shut down area:D Thanks for the opinions

In neutral the output shaft becomes the input. I don't think that would be good with some of the 3 speeds. I'm on the brakes hard in my car and can't make any of the early turn offs. I just brake when I hit the line and leave it in 3rd and turn off at the end of the strip.

Agreed,we have a th350 and even the tranny builder recommends it,same as with the glide we ran.I like the thought of the RPM as low as I can after the stripe so when the oil is sloshing around in the oil pan it does not get uncovered.I know you don't want to shut a turbo car off at the stripe because it needs the oil circulating to cool the turbo. Thanks for the input
