I have shift problems which I believe may be related to the governor, but I need some expert opinion. If I let the car shift on its own it will short shift the 1-2 shift at 3700 RPM. If I try to shift manually at 5000 RPM it won't come out of first until I let off the gas. The 2-3 shift happans at 4800 RPM. Does this sound like a governor? TIA,

Bruce

No expert here but....

have you tried tv cable adjustment? Also what code trans, any mods, when did it start acting up and how many miles?

TV cable is adjusted to be as tight as it will go at WOT. The trans is a PMAC built trans with about 18K miles. The governor spring has been replaced in the past which is probably some of the problem since the trans has always shifted in the 4600-4800 RPM since, and just recently started short shifting on the 1-2. The trans is rock solid otherwise.

Sounds like it coud be

the gov, maybe try pulling it to check it, also if you have a scanner check to make sure tcc isn't locking up if you have L/U. Try a search on here for "short shifting"

No indications of tcc locking on direct scan, or by any other indication that I can tell. Every aspect of the transmission appears to be in good working order, save for the early 1-2 shift. I will probably wait till I can pick up another govenor before pulling it, I would rather pull it once and no for sure whether that is it or not.

Sounds like a wise decision...

Be careful you get the correct gov. as a BRF gov in a non BRF calibrated vb will give you sismilar problems.
