tell me all the signs of within a bad head gasket? i have all the symtoms of gasket failure such as pressurized in the overflow, loss of coolant, milkshake contamination on the upper top end, corroted valves onthe # 3 valves on the driver side head. When i took the headgasket off, they look fine, but i havent check througtly enough on the gasket, please any inputs will be highly appreciated.!

Hey.. Here is a thought... grab a Chiltons and learn. If you have a 20 year car you are going to have to know how to WORK on it! \

Soto,
Bring the gaskets to me and I will take a look at them.

Are we still on for the trade? Haven't heard back from you.

Ok, I will be in Baytown tomorrow on business around lunch. I can meet up with you in the afternoon if you can step out of work for a little bit.

Look at the head gasket and look for any signs of water having leaked across a water jacket to the cylinder, or any other hole that leads to oil. Look for the same on the mating surface of the head, and the deck of the block. Look for any damage to the fire ring on the head gasket. It could be something as simple as the intake gasket leaking from the water jacket, into an intake port or into the lifter valley. This can happen easily with that joke of an intake gasket...that steel shim stock gasket. Its so thin, that if you're decks arent perfectly square, perfectly straight, the intake port mating surface being perfectly co-linear with the intake port surface on the head, etc...it will leak. Add boost to the equation and theres little hope of it ever sealing. When I did my intake gasket, it had one of those steel shimstock gaskets, and it had been leaking everywhere. They had used black RTV silicone, and it had lost its bond everywhere...which is what happens with black RTV anytime oil comes in contact with it. Use Permatex "the right stuff"...NEVER use RTV. It simply doesnt bond worth a crap. Use the fel-pro 1 piece intake gasket with the integrated valley pan, and use "the right stuff" around both sides of the gasket around all the water jackets, around every intake port, and around every EGR port. Use a thin, even bead about 1/8" away from the edge, so that when you torque it, it doesnt squeeze into the ports and jackets. Plan everything ahead and have tools ready, cause you need to work fast before that stuff even starts to cure. I used to have some coolant consumption. I was almost sure it had lost a head gasket, but after doing the intake manifold corectly, all that stopped.

I do.. its called reading and leaning. I have seen you post this question on every board on the net. Like I said.. a turbo regal is the wrong car to have if you don't have any mechanical knowledge.

like i said a series of boards?? funny thing is that wasnt even me that posted in hotrodgossip, jason,my brother did regarding the issue and finding some good HG @ the houston area.. anyways i solved my issue,a cracked passenger head, my head gasket look new when taken out,but around the waterjacket,a series of worm trails can be closely inspected with a good eye where pressure was showin. I tell you what, your from the houston area right? i have purchase some good ol iron heads from a local member bring your buick vs my buick at any track, and we can solve it.No buts,if,how, why, just bring it.

Ps. im the one who tore my motor out,and im the ONE that is going to put my motor back together, so yes my mechanical skills ,learning and reading skills are limited, .

heres the post that you claim i put my issue at in "a number of boards" from HOTRODGOSSIP.com:rolleyes:

Most people are getting away from Fel Pro 1000 series O-ring style head gaskets. If your heads aren't O-ringed yet, look at cometics

Sorry to hear about the head, but GLAD you found the problem! These problems are HARD to find sometimes. Hey, at least you know what to fix, and how to fix it, right? Call if you need anything.

I understand your point Westside500, but, as moderator of this forum, judge your personal attacks to be petty, unhelpful, and out of line.

We all start learning at some point....The only stupid question in my mind is the the one unasked.

If you ever get to a post graduate learning environment, you'll be required to gather information from every known source. Nothing wrong with that.

If you don't like a(ny) thread, pass over it.

Multiple posts are not making your thought processes look any better. If you have a problem with the originator of this thread, take it off the board, peacefully. I don't want to see it here. We're all here to learn and share knowledge and enthusiasm for Buicks.

Can't we all just 'Get along'.... ;)

So what? If it bothers you, pass over the thread. Hundreds of people have seen this thread and your negative flaming comment probably turned off more than a few and discouraged some from asking questions they may have about their cars. I'm the original owner of a 10 second car and I still have questions about it! Paul
