well i was happy as pig **** today got the car on the road and i thought she ran good. well i started to get into boost and it would knock around 3-4 pounds sometimes 1-2 it was really weird. anyways so im thinking thats really weird i havent check fuel pressure i just set the TPS and thats it its been running good. well i check fuel pressure dead on at 43 line off check the pressure rise in the garage by stalling it up everything checked out so i pulled the plugs. plugs look alittle rich but pretty good. check the old 02 sensor looks alittle rich no big deal. so i put a new o2 in. so im looking around thinking WTF well there was a puddle of oil right under my boost controler its like an RJC unit kinda but it has a small hole in it for a bleed or something. well its only hooked up to the compressor outlet and the wastegate so humm well i will be damned. pull the IAT sensor out of the intake and looky what we got oil all over the damn sensor. now im saying to myself well im ****ed. thanks precision. i had my turbo custom made about 6 years with a special seal so it would work with my hotair car since the location of the throttle body is preturbo. well last year i thought i hurt my turbo but it was really a head gasket. well i sent the turbo to get fixed at precision and then i found out it wasnt the turbo it was a head gasket. anyways im not sure what precision did but im going to have to call them. if they put a dynamic seal in it im screwed. i dont want to be dishing out 1200+ on a custom turbo. i know i can get one made but its a one off piece and its going to cost a assload of money. im going to be calling precision first thing monday damn im so ****ing pissed off right now. well i guess this will give me time to pull the oil pan and fix the small leak it has

i wish it will be that easy. i will let you know what i find out monday. i might be ordering a new turbo from cottons but i dont know if he can get it made fast enough.

its a problem with the backing plates and something else. its not easy. thats why none of these hotair guys run big turbos. we cant get them. i have been offered alot of my for my turbo since it was custom made about 6 years ago when we could still get parts. Not sure what precision will be able to do for me. this really sucks. how much does a Ta-54 go for for the 86-87 cars? 500-700? i know i was offered 900 for mine several months back. i might take a hit on this deal . we will see what happens. if all else fails i will sale this one after i get it back from precision if they cant help me and use that money as for a new unit from cotton. i have several ideas but i dont want to put them on the board yet. anyways we will see. o also i got the turbo off and theres a huge puddle of oil in the intake

well i got the oil pan pulled off. it was leaking passenger side front pretty damn good. also the boost plate is leaking alittle so i tighten the bolts just a hair i hope that fixes it. now i just need to order a pan gasket since the spare i had got oil on it and i dont want to risk it.

so i pulled a plug and took alook down at the piston. there all brown and oily. i dont understand why the car didnt smoke. well im guessing once i get a good turbo on there and run some gas and alky threw the motor the pistons will clean up. what do you think?

Rings haven't seated yet. Clean them up and re-install. Maybe try a hotter plug? (just thinking outloud?)

its from the leaky turbo. i just took a Q-Tip to one of them threw the plug hole and it cleans right up should be good once i put some gas and alky threw it.

watch the amount of alchy

it removes all the oil, ( no lubrication to cyl walls)
cycle the engine by driving in 3rd gear up to 65 mph or so, then let off, and let engine slow you, ( or 2nd gear and 45 mph)
point is to let rings ride against cyl walls, with no load, it'll help seat them before you beat on it.
on oil pump spacer plate, don't over tighten, check how flat, and cover too!
I have run accross warped covers, and they will leak no matter what.

thanks lee. as far as the alky i figured once i run it on normal gas for awhile and with the light mist of alky they will clean right up. as far as the adapter plate it just went a 1/16th of a turn tighter.

i will keep you posted. there is so much involved into these hotair turbos its not even funny. after talking to matt at precision i fell like it will be taken care off. Also might try to get the turbo upgraded if i can. not sure how far they can take a Ta-54 Caseing. Sure would be nice if they could make me a a Dual BB Ta-66 10's anyone?
