One of six built and one of two that were built originally with Buicks. Third picture is of where car sat for 19 years before we got it.

The Buick Argo s/n 101 was never really famous or driven by famous people. It did run first as a full GTP car for it's first year them ran the Camel lights GTP with a 3.0 liter engine. It ran about 20 races between 1984 and 1987. It had one win, the Miami street race for Camel lights in 1986. It is the car pictured in the Buick power source book on pages 32/33. it's also in the 84/85 solid success brochure #01 on page 5 I think. We have run it with the vintage Kinsler injection but have a Holley carb on it now. We have two natural engines now but maybe we need a turbo..... as found

I saw that car win at the Miami Grand Prix on the streets of downtown Miami. I don't remember the driver, but the sound of the Buick V6 I do remember.

The driver/owner was Don Bell and the car was entered as a Royale Buick. With a helmet on and earplugs in with the engine mounted solid to the chassis you don't hear exhaust just all the mechanical workings of the engine. The sound of the exhaust always gets spectators jazzed up and is commented on often.

What does the car weigh GTP-ARGO? At 3.0 with a d stroked with S2 heads I bet it loves 10,000-12,000 rpm.

Indy Lights engine in for a freshen-up. Really nice piece. Buick threw a lot of money at this program in the late '90's. 4.1L, Kinsler (Mg) injection, Cosworth saddle pumps. It was a spec engine that made 425hp; dumbed down with a mild cam and 7300rpm rev limiter to ensure durability during the races. Still pretty quick since the Lola car weighed only 1430 lbs. They're popular in vintage racing today. Back in the day you couldn't buy these engines - had to lease them.
