Thought they ran 1/4 mile runs, cause it sure seems like they are going more than 1/8 mile runs.

Its the editing...it drives me nuts. They film it from several angles and then play back every angle during the race and make a 5 sec race look like a 13 sec pass

That explains alot right there then, so they have killer 1/8th mile setups that equate to under 9.5's in the 1/4 mile if they didn't run out of top end or break stuff by that point. Very interesting that is.

this is with the old procharger setup
the twin 88's are much faster rumor is that it has run into the 7's

Full Throttle Mike's posted video beat me to it, but if your thinking 9.5's with these cars...your dreaming. These are 7 sec cars...or at least the top 3 or 4 are. I dont think Doc's Monte is...regardless of the 706 motor or not. Big Chief's car is prob got the most potential but that Camaro that Monza has is just plain scary. Either one of those cars would be hard to touch on the street or track and I think both would beat the truck...and will real soon. I think Monza takes the #1 spot soon, and Chief will get his shot...and that will be a race to watch.
Street or track...staged or not...its very entertaining to me. I've read that when they do public appearances...most are very down to earth car guys...but I've never been anywhere that they have been.

That car has enough steam to break the 7.50 barrier. Anyone on here who thinks it matters if it's set up for eighth mile is crazy. That's still low 8's with no throttle past the eighth.

I was saying they were obviously faster than 9.5's in the quarter if they are doing over 120 in the 1/8th. The camera angle work they do does play with the mind of how long the runs were.

Staged or not, can't argue the results. Those cars flat out move. Chief's car with that big motor on twins with boost will be a monster.

My friend Lon Williams' new 69 Camaro does 4.40's in the 1/8 and 6's in the 1/4...but it could never see the street. It's hard enough to it out of the trailer, it sits so low.
These cars are purpose built to "drive" and "race" on the street. There was an episode last fall where Chief drove his car around to get some break in miles...it look to drive pretty good, plus I think he is a pretty good tuner.
Plus...I do not know how many of you notice, but the 3rd guy with Shawn and Chief is Jeff Lutz...he's no joke and is in the Top 3 Fastest Street cars during Drag Week. He drives the flat black 57 Chevy. He is part of their business. Notice all 3 cars...Murder Nova, The Crow GTO, and the 57 are all Flat Black...

Lot of $$$$ made from the show, which is why boosted GT moved for a piece of the pie.

fastest street cars that street race but get trailered to every street race.
I do like the show just not a fanatic about it.

One of the best parts of the show that i enjoy is when they film the drivers fighting with the steering wheel to keep the car going straight. lol that just cracks me up everytime they show it. I know there is some skill there to do that but still is funny to me,watching.

If I had that car it would be trailered too. It would be cheaper gas money to tow and wouldn't cause so much attention. Could you imagine how loud just five of those cars would
be driving down the highway to a race spot.

stupid loud thats for sure. but claim a title and be true to it.
Fastest race cars on the street.

I like the show but all that extra BS makes it BS, for me it holds no stock and its purely TV entertainment.

I hope they make it to the tri-state area some day. There's some good "entries" around here

The Sonoma is a mid- high 4 second truck at the track and its gonna be very close to those same numbers on the street. It flat out works which is why he's hard to beat. If it makes a clean pass he's almost untouchable. The murder nova should be faster at the track but he will have a hard time outrunning the Sonoma on the street. I've hung out with Big Chief and Murder Nova at their shop. They really are just regular guys who love street racing and have built cars for that sole purpose. Sure the show is staged and TV people who know nothing about cars are heavily involved but the racing is real. Its nice to see real car guys getting famous for doing something they love.

Yeah there is always someone faster. They probably say that to get ratings up or just to piss off other racers. They do have some real fast cars imo . It is amazing they can put it to the ground.
I don't have near the power and my mt dr's spin on the street. Its better watching those cars than imports running 12's or slower and talking about how fast their cars are.lol

Interesting how many people are really clueless on how fast these cars really are. I spent some years off and on hanging out with justin when he and I were younger. He and kamikaze were just old enough to afford a car to mess with. All of the older guys really have been street racing since the 80s.

I watch it with a passion because this is all home to me. Hanging out on 39th street on Saturday nights is what we did.

I have a little more reapect for Lutz because at Drag Week these cars are driven to and from the track and raced... no trailer.
My opinion is a purpose built street race car is different than a "street car"... take Farm Truck and AZN those are street cars.. and street racers.
the cars on this show are absolutely wicked and are proving to be the fastest street raced cars...

This show may be many people's first experience with high stakes street racing. Having the fastest car helps, but I've seen plenty with the faster car get snookered in the wee hours of the morning. I'm sure you have too.
