Supporting Hardware for a Trans Brake in a 2004-R

Curious on what are the recommended transmission/driveline/suspension upgrades required to support trans brake launches with a 2004-R trans.

Upgrade wheel studs, axles, u-joints, driveshaft, and yokes. Make sure your bushings are in great shape and your trans and crossmember mounts are also up to the task. The brake will build a lot of heat fast so use good fluid and an external cooler. Don't stay on the brake too long, hit your launch boost and go! Here is a vid that makes me cover my eyes everytime even though I know the outcome...

I got my brake from ck when I rebuilt my transmission. Your transmission should be in good working order, not old or tired, the low roller clutches should be in good condition. As mentioned above, all those parts should also be in good condition. On that note make sure your car stereo is secured properly, mine ended up on the floor the back seat the first time I used the brake.

No specific heavy duty parts for the trans? Mine has been rebuilt by the previous owner. Shifts are firm and crisp, but I know nothing about the internals.

If it wasn't built with a brake I doubt it has the needed parts inside the trans. So cars have them and last longer with less parts than others with the "goodies" inside. The thing is, you will pay for what you break! I could tell you all the stock stuff is fine and it'll last two years...or two days. Contact a good builder with a rep here!

unless you are planning on running 60' times in the 1.30's you dont need anything in the trans to run a brake. If you are going that quick you should get an output shaft. The stuff behind the trans needs the attention. driveshaft, carrier/axles, and wheel studs.

Did the forward drum break while on the trans brake or after launching? The shaft is loaded while on the brake. I never had a car with low enough power to try a stock drum with a trans brake.

Did the forward drum break while on the trans brake or after launching? The shaft is loaded while on the brake. I never had a car with low enough power to try a stock drum with a trans brake.

Believe it broke when releasing brake. Car never moved.
