I know this sounds dumb but can a t-type lesabre intake fit on a hot air TR?? if so could us hot air then be intercooled with ease. rather then running pipes everywhere?? or converting to the 86/87, well if it does fit then it will be the same thing really. The throttle body should face towards the radiator. I think the TB might need a adaptor of some short but just a thought i guess.

You are talking about the fwd 3.8L one piece intake similar to the 86/7 GN intakes, right??

They will physically fit, but the thermostat/radiator hose outlet will be in the back if you face the throttle body towards the front of the car. I don't think you could fit the turbo in the stock 84/5 location with this intake. I looked in to doing this, before I went with the 86/7 lower and a custom upper plenum on my custom setup.

Actually, there used to be pictures stickied at the top of the forum of my setup for a long time...I haven't been on here for a while, they seem to be MIA...

could the TB face the back like ford cobras and just make custom pipes?? yeah just an thought, i see some of those intakes on ebay. So it has worked so to speak right??

Facing frontwards or backwards, I don't believe the turbo would fit in the stock 84/5 location with that intake...

oh sorry im sometimes think ot myself and go on without saying my ideas. Are you talking about factory location meaning header wise, if so then i mean someone can use that intake and just get 86/87 headers, mount the Turbo up front then run the pipes to the intake. I'm sure the intercooled guys love the 2 pc intake anyway, why do all that custom work just to go intercooled right, just an idea.

If you want to try it more power to you. I found one to play with and got everything to mount it injectors, harness for same, thottle body ect. You will have to face the inlet to the rear so the water passeges will cool the engine.

Ah...I see...Yes, it would work if you were to mount the turbo in the stock 86/7 location, and just feed the intake hotair style straight from the turbo...

As far as what charlief1 is saying, that may be a problem as well, but you could run some type of coolant crossover setup by drilling and tapping the intake flanges and running some type of tubing from one side to the other for a crossover. Heck, you could even relocate the thermostat to the front using one of those aftermarket relocation setup things (??? ;) ) and then blocking the one that would now be in the rear of the intake...With a little bit of fabrication, anything can be done, given enough time and money...

The plenum volume on those fwd intakes aren't nearly as big as with the 86/7 or even the 84/5 intakes...Not sure if that would even factor in as far as drivability or performance is concerned...Just throwing these random thoughts out there as I think of them...

Good Luck though, on whatever you decide you want to do...Anything can be done...Heck, I was told that the 86/7 lower intake couldn't be used on an 84/5 stock turbo location setup, but I proved everyone wrong on that one...

Well, not everyone. I have been running my 85 with
an 86 intake and modded upper plenum for some years
now. Not much custom work here except for the
upper plenum. I had mine at the GSCA Nationals
last year and will have it at the Nats this year, too probably.
Let's bring some of these cars to the Nats and show
them off? Or even put some on the track, maybe?

I was at the nationals last year, where were you parked? I have plans of being there again this year and will run it down the track just like last year. The best part was time trials after the car show and then having to get the award with tire rubber on the quarters.

I showed up late for the show. Only displayed,
not judged. Last car on the end of a row.
I didn't/won't race my cars. Too cheap. : - ))
But I will display one again this year,
probably. Didn't hang around for the
awards.

Post a pic please. I'm in limbo over my second regal right now and would love to see what you did.

If you are talking to me, I can't post a picture.
Computer is limping right now. Sorry.

Here are some pix I have from the board. FJM568 was one of the first to put a 87 intake on a Hotair. 6 to go also did it. Their work got me to toying with 87 intakes. I must give credit to the late Bruce Plecan "BRUCE". He took off his intercooler of his 87 GN and sprayed alky in place of the intercooler. This was a 500-600hp GN. Ms. Jaime ,Brent, and Leeo inpressed me all with their work on the HOT AIR intake. I figure that Buick Engineers saw something that made them change intakes.

By modding the plenum on the 87 intake, you can mount the turbo in the stock location and run HOT AIR or Cooled..... in a matter of minutes. Using the 87 intake allows you to plumb alky directly into the intake... as well as NOS.

I plan on having one of my cars with an 86/87
intake and a modified upper plenum @ Bowling
Green again this year. This really draws a crowd
at the Nats, lots of interest. Don't know if
anyone else is going this route, though.
Sure would be good to have some flow #'s
of the same intake with both stock
and modified upper plenums to compare.
Maybe there will be some flow #'s soon.
I worked with the JS MFG guys when they
were developing their concept, which is what
led me to this.

6 to go...
I hope to have my car there also. I will have it ready to run HOT or COOLED:eek: After I emailed you a few times, I got a couple of intakes and went to work. I have been slowly sneaking up on needed parts for two engines. I came to the conclusion that if leeo, Ms. Jaime, Brent and others could run the times they are running, what is the intercooler really worth? What is alky really worth? What is NOS really worth:eek:  ? I plan to try ALL of the above mentioned. Actually I have tried all except alky. Eric Marshall and Julio have now made it possible to try all THREE:eek: ! I have followed Don Wang and I think that all THREE could work really good on a Hot Air... I am gone to be the Guinea Pig:cool:

I want to try the alky injection , too. I think the combo
of alky injection and IC will really do the job.
I hope to see you there and we'll talk and compare.
I will be there in one of the 3 cars - don't know
which one yet.
