Whats the differences in these three turbos, i know a lot about cars but not about turbo specifics. i want a streetable turbo that can push a 4.1 into the mid to high 10s(in race "mode")

A 4.1L pushs enough exhaust volume that a 61 feels like the stocker on a stock motor, IMO. It almost makes too much boost just off idle. A 61 makes the car act like it's actually a 454 under the hood in around town driving, IMO. Least to me, and my car with a stocker converter. I have the 4.1L out right now, but I'm seriously thinking of a 45A, and a looser converter. Probably will be going up in cam from the 206/206 in it.
HTH

TA61 and TE61 both use the same wheels (non-GT). The TA uses a stock appearing compressor housing, while the TE uses a non stock appearing compressor housing.

The PT-61 uses the GT61mm compressor wheel.

Sorry for highjacking the thread, but I've been kinda thinking of the same thing. I realize the TA and TE are almost the same power-wise, but I also was wondering what differences between specifically the TE-61 and the PT-61/ GT6152E (are these the same unit?) as far as power, spoolup/stall are concerned. I'd like to see high 11s with alky without running on the ragged edge. Yeah, I know some guys can get there with stock/smaller turbos but if I'm buying a new turbo anyway, why not get the most power for the same $$$?

I'll need to get a new converter anyway, just wondering which turbo would give me the most bang for the buck. Basically I want to buy the highest HP small shaft turbo (cheaper) turbo within reason and match the converter to that turbo of course.

the PT61 is way different than the old TE or TA 61...the new 61 uses a Garrett GT 61mm compressor wheel which is the same exact wheel they use on their ball bearing GT35R...the wheel is VERY efficient...way more efficient than the old 61s...the PT61 does nearly 630-650 flywheel horsepower...I've gone high 11's on only 23 psi and a really rich alcohol tune on a bone stock motor...I have no reason to doubt my car will be in the low 11's with a race tune...this thing just keeps pulling and pulling even past 110 mph...

recommended stall with this turbo is 3200-3400...on my setup, the turbo spools almost as fast as the stock turbo did with my 3500 stall...killer turbo!

could a PT61 on a 4.1 with ported stock heads, and a FMIC, no alcohol go 11.00 or possible faster?

I ran 11.42 @ 116.52 mph with the PT61 on BFG dr's ( 1.696 60' ), stock motor, 25 psi boost through the mufflers on Sunoco 116. No doubt it will go 11.1x's on slicks. Best 60' on slicks 1.550, but haven't ran the ¼ with slicks with this turbo. This turbo is a bad mf'er!! Had a PT52 before this one and there's no comparison. The PT61 pulls like a freight train on top with NO bottom end loss.

all depends on the weight of the vehicle and if you are using race gas? it will take a full weight GN (3700 lbs) on a bone stock motor into the low 11's on high boost...high 10's with a good set of heads and cam (again this is full weight)

I know guys out there have done high 10's on the 50 series turbos but they had a little weight taken off most of the time...the 61 is far more efficient than any of those turbos...the GT compressor wheel is the real deal

my set up will be something like this: 4.1, stock crank, forged rods/pistons, ported/polished stock heads, bigger valves, ported stock intake, pt61, FMIC, 65# injectors(maybe 72#), most boost i can get with race gas. Im looking for a 10 sec time slip, i would race it too much like this, but it would be nice to get, ill drive it on the street mostly.

The cpt 65 also uses the 61mm wheel. It is a big shaft so it does cost more. It's just another turbo using the 61mm wheel.

I don't have any exp with the other turbos but I can tell you the PT 61 is an animal. With 94 octane and 18# of boost it doesn't spool till around 3000 (no converter yet  ). But once it does it hauls ass like no other. An amazing difference from the stock turbo thats for sure.

I hit up SLP day here and threw in 116 along with upping it to 22# of boost and with a badly slipping trans and an old ass street chip from 1992, I ran a 13.2 @ 107 - showing quite a bit of knock also thanks to the trans slipping bad between shifts.

On the street after that I got home, and turned up the boost to 27# and now the tires won't even stay on the ground in first. The whole car goes sideways as soon as boost reaches 25 on way to 27. Then the trans ate it real good. :D

I'm very sure after I get my 60 lb injectors, new chip, rebuilt trans, and converter i'll be well on my way to 11's, and 10's don't seem far off at all with some head work and a nice cam.
