Hi All, Newbie here!
I purchased and installed a TCI Streetfighter 200 4R #381500. This trans is supposed to have BRF calibrations. I am not sure what that means. I am very happy with this trans. except with the late 3 - 4 shift. All other shifts are great and firm.
I have adjusted the TV cable and have found that if I loosen it the 1-2 and 2-3 shift get closer together and softer, but there is no change in the 3-4 shiftpoint. If I tighten the Tv cable all the shifts spread out even more and get even firmer and again the 3-4 shift is even later. My 3-4 shift is at approx. 55 mph. now. I would like to lower just my 3-4 shift point and nothing else. I am running 3.31/1 rear gears if it matters. I am also running Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid and a 2800 stall converter. So far (240miles) I think this is 1 great trans, love the 4th gear and lockup.

All my contact at TCI would say is to purchase a governor caibration kit, which I think will affect all shiftpoints, I am only interested in lowering the 3-4 shift point to around 45mph if possible.
The TCI dealer I purchased the trans through won't even answer my emails.
Any help will apreceiated!!

tci

We have a tci man here on the board. Goes by meanbuicks I think. What rpm is tranny shifting at @ full throttle? BRF calibration should be around 5000 approx. What size tire are u running? My stock tranny shifted into od at 42 at lightest throttle.
Sorry you haven't got a better reply but the board has been dead as of late.

Thank you! My WOT shiftpoints are at 5100 rpm. I am very happy with that. Its just the part throttle 3-4 shift that doesn't happen soon enough, right now at 55 mph. My tires are 26.5" tall. I have tried to force a shift earlier then 55 mph by bliping the throttle, but nothing happens till 55 mph.
I sure would like that to be closer to 45mph. All other WOT shiftpoints and part throttle shiftpoints are perfect. I just want an earlier part throttle 3 -4 shift!

I forgot to mention that once the trans shifts into 4th gear at 55 mph, I have no problem coming down to 45 mph and keeping it in 4th gear with the TC locked. But if I push the throttle down, it unlocks the TC and downshifts to 3rd., which it is supposed to do from what I understand.

Here is a chart that will help a little. Could your speedo be off? If it shifted into OD @ 46mph it would drop to about 1400rpm.

Again thank you. I am going to print that chart, you hit it dead on, when the trans shifts into 4th gear at 55 mph and and I lock the TC, then bring it down to 45-46 mph. my rpms are at roughly 1400 rpm. Perhaps the BRF calibration of the valve body/governor likes 3.73/1 better then my 3.31/1 rear gears. And yes my speedo could be off ,but not more then about 3mph max.

brf

The brf is calibrated for 3.42 gears. I got the chart from
www.smokemup.com Lots of useful calculators there.
If all the other shifts are ok I would leave well enough alone:D

Thank you!

Again thank you! I may leave it alone. Thanks for that link as well.
In doing a search on this in this forum, I have found people with similar late part throttle 3-4 shifts. The recomendation was to cut 2 coils off the 3-4 shiftvalve spring or put in a spring with less tension. I am not sure I want to do that yet. I will be doing a complete fluid change as per TCI's recomendation at the 500 mile mark and will change the disposable inline trans fluid filter I have when I put the new fluid in. I may attempt to change or modify that spring then.
Another local guy also said to leave it alone and that the 3-4 shift point may come down a bit once the 3-4 shiftvalve spring has had some exercise!!!!

WHAT DID THE TCI TRANS COST YOU AND DID IT COME WITH THE CONVERTER

I got my TCI trans through a TCI dealer in Iowa that I met at a different message board. I got it for a couple hundred less then they show in the Summit catalog. I then payed an extra $145 to ship it from Mississippi to Winnipeg Canada (no duty)! I bought the converter seperately.

So far I am very happy with this trans, although I would like the part throttle 3-4 shiftpoint to be a little lower.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. WHAT MODS HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR CAR. I AM JUST WONDERING IF THAT TRANNY WILL HOLD UP WITH MINE

Well TCI states this transmission is rated to hold 450Hp. When I asked them what torque it would hold, i got no answer. This trans is in my 70 camaro with a 461BBC, it has 9.5/1 compression, 280/290 hyd. flat tappet cam, Performer RPM intake, headers and modified HEI estimated to be around 425 Hp and about 480-500 ft.lbs. torque.
Now I have to mention, I DO NOT RACE! This car is a street cruiser, although I do get it on once in awhile. I do not run slicks or even drag radials. Just my 295/50/15 rear street tires.

Try again!

Thought I would bring this up again. I have corrected my speedo, it was off by approx 3 mph.
But my part throttle 3-4 shift is still at 52 mph. My feeling is its still a little high, I haven't done anything to try and change it yet. I was wondering if thats where it should be with my 3.31/1 rear gears??
Anybody have any ideas??
