I've been doing some research and I'm confused on exhaust housings (.63).
When one purchases a Te60, I see that it comes with a Precision .63 housing.
Yet I read in various threads that some guys will have a Garrett .63 housing on a TE60.
My question is, can you buy a TE60 with a Garrett housing? It seems that you can't. The reason I ask is I read that the Garrett will spool much quicker than the Precision. Is this true? Or is this something not to be concerned with.
I'll be running with the stock converter to start with, then upgrade as budget permits.

Of all the things to learn about these cars, I find the "turbo stuff" the hardest to get my head around.......so, sorry if the question is a tad on the dumbazz side  :D

You have the right idea about the garrett housing and the stock converter. I don't anyone sell them with new with the garrett housings anyone.

My TE60 has a precision housing on it i dnt belive ive seen a new one come with a Garrett housing but im still new as well so my experience is a little limited

I am pretty sure that you can get a te60 with garrett housing, but not from our vendors. Limit Engineering would be who i would call and find out. I think they are in lake havasu arizona :: Limit Engineering ::

The housing is just a bored out stock unit mated to the new turbo, it would spool great with rjc boost controller and a loose high mileage convertor.

Yes, the garrett housing will spool faster, but a little less mph on the top end compared to the precision housing.

The car will be a turd down low with the te60 and a tight D5 stock convertor, if you have a internal wastegate, then try a ball and spring boost controller to get the boost in sooner.
I would go to a 3000 convertor to make it work, its a cheap turbo, runs ok.

Now for some advice:

If your going to buy a turbo, that te60 makes for a good turbo, its laggy but has capability to run mid to low 11's if its all done right.
The 6152 seems to have the same spool up but makes more power, ive had a few of them,(actually both turbos) they are just as laggy(stock convertor) but make more power than the te60.

The te60 is a good turbo, but its too small if you want to do heads and cam, the 6152 will work fine with heads and cam, then if you upgrade from there, 66mm if you have heads and cam.

If your worried about spool up, get a bb version, or just pick a smaller turbo.

Stock convertor with rjc ball and spring boost controller, te44 or ta49. Works real good, great stop light to stop light.

All these older turbos work great with stock heads, 44, 49, 51 52 53 54, ta61, 6152 6262 ect

My dad has a ta49 and blue tops on his WE4, stock convertor thdp and stock ic with meth. It spools like a stock turbo since it has that rjc boost controller, fast enough for him... Tires dont like it. Other than that the car is pretty much stock.

Hope you pick the right turbo, you will easily outgrow a small one if you plan to go faster in the future.

Limit and g pop shop will machine stock housings for use with the 31 trim ex wheel. Its the right thing to do if running a 12" converter

Thanks to all for the replys. Plans in the future will be to go to a 2800 converter. So, I guess having the Precision exhaust would be ok. I would just have to live with the lag with the D5 until I upgraded.
Like most I'm working with a budget, my goals are low 11's and just want to put the right pieces in place.
Car is mostky stock for now, so far I've:
-upgraded fuel pump/with hotwire
-TT chip (will reburn with future upgrades)
-valve springs (comp 180's)
-Hooker cat-back
-Razor's Alky
-MT DR's

With TE60 I was planning on:
-PTC 2800 lu
-60lb/inj
-3" downpipe (internal w/gate, TA or RJC)
-reburned chip of course
-and if the money is there a PTE SLIC

Motor is very good, but stock internals. Do you guys think I'd have to max the TE60 with alot of timing?

Yes, high boost and really low timing on race gas, or medium boost and medium timing on alky to get low 11s.

Everyone says its easy, its not as easy as they say until you actually do it.

Ok, so what sort of boost #'s are we looking at. High being 28-30 and med 23-26lbs...?? I've never owned anything but the stocker, so I really don't where the effeciency range is on a 60.

That sounds about right, 23-26 to get the most power out of it for our cars.

Don't worry about lag. Just consider it traction control.

Seriously, not saying that I wouldn't pick up some e.t. and m.p.h. with a converter, but for a driver, it builds boost fine on the brake and traction definitely becomes an issue then.

ON my car
TE-60 Precision .63 housing and the stock D5 the car was a cow of the line.

The same TE-60 and the garret ex.housing - with the same stock D5 it was night and day.

BTW i had the stock Garret housing off of my stock turbo machined by G-Pop shop it all worked perfect.

gusszgn, you don't need the 60lb inj with the alky or the bigger intercooler.your 42lb with razor's alky is enough for your goals, need to tune it, track it,and hook it;)the garrett.63 is the way to go especially on the stock converter.i like good converters makes a noticeable difference.

Spool,
I only have the stock 28lb injectors......so I figured going to the 60's would have me covered with the TE60.
I fully understand where your coming from on the coverter.

Ya who is G-Pop and where are they???

gusszgs- Have you already purchased the turbo?

Why not get the 6152, in my opinion, makes more power than the te60.

No, not yet......head is still spinning.
I wasn't completely set on the Te60, it just seemed to fit my budget and goals pretty good.

Was really looking for a turbo that would get me in the low 11's without kickin the hell out of it.
