Thinkin about upgradeing to try and muscle my way into the 11s... what are some of the pros/cons to switching to that large of a turbo? Any input would be great - thanks! -Ben

I think the TE-62 has a 60-1 compressor in it. You have plenty of turbo to go low 11's. Something else is wrong.

Edit: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/turbo/turbowheels.html
TE-62 = 60-1/P-Trim. You can go much faster with your same turbo.

What is your 60'? How much boost?

My car with a similar turbo, smaller cam but slightly worked stock heads went 11.7@117 on 17# of boost with a 2.0 60'

Throw on a alky kit and crank up the boost :)

Not doing alky - ever. Best 60ft was a 2.0 and went 12.20 @ 114 on 19lbs boost. Heads do have a port to them but are stock otherwise.

You need some good tires and to launch the car harder. With a decent 60' you should be in the 11's

No alky? What about race gas?

We've got a couple pumps with 100oct unleaded. Gonna try and get a few gallons of that and put a few more lbs boost in it and see what happends.

Looks like you have the MPH for 11's easy. I personally think the 70 mm turbo would be too big. That 60' could be a lot better. What suspension mods and rear tires are you running? What boost are you launching at?

Suspension is stock 85 GN suspension. As far as tires, I had 235/60/15 M/T ET streets when I went the 12.2 @ 114

Then you need to upgrade the rear brakes. It is easy. Get the chevy s10 rear cylinders and the dual primary pads. I can launch at 5 psi boost with that setup and get 60' times in the 1.7 range. If you got a 1.7 60' you are already into the 11's.

I'll have to give it a try then cause I cant afford to put a suspension underneath it right now...gonna be a mess tryin to pull strings to just get the car runnin again this year with my truck not sellin n all.

The rear brake upgrades are cheap. The larger bore S-10 wheel cylinders are like 15 bucks each and the dual primary pads are not that bad. Should be less that 60 dollars total. If the rest of the brake system is in good shape you should be there. Good luck!

Don't waste your money. You've got 11 second potiential with your current parts.

Allright...if you guys think its possible... I'll get fresh E/T Streets and those brake parts goin on there and see what happends.... -Ben

You need some help with your combination, as you should be low 11's or high 10's?

If you are running a 3000 stall converter with a 62 turbo. No wonder your car is a dog.

I have mentioned this before, a local street legal GN with a stock, unopened factory engine has run 10.90 with a 61 turbo.

It is NOT about a BIG turbo or some other expensive parts, it is all about COMBINATION, and yours sucks.

I have calls every day from owners with similar issues, and they have just thrown lots of expensive parts on their car, and performance still sucks.

Also, a build and combination is not just some engine parts, but other areas like suspension, tires, fuel delivery, converter and other items MUST be up to the level of your desired performance.

Te62 is a 60-1 with a 76p trim. It's a 10.40 turbo. I've gone 10.61 myself with it. A 70 will go well into the 9's. Switching turbos won't make it quicker.

So what converter should I be running then? I was told that as long as I had something between 2800-3000 that the TE62 would have more than enough converter to get goin off the line. As far as fuel goes, are the 42.5s not gonna cut it either then? What is a 'good combination' then? 0.o

My ptc 9.5" is about 3100@0 and it spools a 60-1 fast. 5100 stall at 24psi on that particular engine
