Yeah, saw the previews the other night during the games with a large crowd of people. Even people who didnt have a clue about cars were like "What the hell?? Is that a mustang?? What a total joke, I even know its suposed to be a Trans Am"

I just shook my head and said the show will be over and canceled in a season anyways. Thats the new generation of tv makers for for ya:rolleyes: What next a new Dukes of Hazzard with a Supra?

based on what NBC/Universal has done with other Glen Larson series from the 1970's, I would bet it would be a hit (Battlestar Gallactica and Bionic Woman).

There hasn't a Trans Am for 5 years and a modified GT500 is as good a car to start with as anything available from GM today.

If the T/A ever comes back, I'm sure the Mustang will get wrecked and come back as the new T/A.

The whole reason that NBC didn't go with a GM car was based solely on who was going to buy advertising in the form of commercials. Not because the show was going retro. NBC had GM picked based on the popularity of the Transformer movie. But GM wasn't going to buy as much advertising as Ford was so the Mustang ended up as K.I.T.T. NBC went with the deepest pockets in other words. Where's the arguement on why the new Challenger wasn't picked? I guess it could be worse. They could have picked a Toyota.

I'm going to have dig up a link. There's some truth to a rumor that those Shelbys were converted to automatics because nobody in the cast could drive a stick. LOL.

They would convert them to autos just so that E-brake J turns are easier.

What TV series with cars in it doesn't have E brake J-turns?

Maybe if GM's head wasn't square up their asses they would have a Camaro/Firebird in current production that could be used.

I think the show will flop and be a failure, which is typical of remakes.

Just look at Dukes Of Hazzard.....Burt Reynolds ain't no Boss Hogg, and Jessica Simpson ain't no Daisy. Willie sort of fitted the part of Jesse...though they should've changed the theme of "former moonshiner" to "current toker". :D :p

Dukes of Hazzard failed because they tried to get people to pay $8.00 to see it.

I know people that will waste 2 hours watching it every time it comes on cable.

TV sucks so badly, I think if KR is done well it will be a hit. As long as they keep David Hasselhoff out of the production end of things and keep his appearances to cameos, NBC probably won't screw it up too bad.

As for the show doing well? Look at it this way 20+ years have past from the orig show.

YOU HAVE A WHOLE NEW AUDIENCE OF TV DOLTS.

IT should do well

Since when do actors do their own stunt driving? If anything the auto makes it easier to do reverse bootleggers. You know. Jam the car in reverse and flick the wheel. Jamb it in drive when it's halfway around. Real stunt drivers rig the brake release open so all you have to do is mash the pedal to get the rears to lock. Let off to unlock. Both hands on the wheel and the right foot on the gas. Didn't you ever watch Hunter? Even easier if you have a weiney mobile with a pull up park brake like Shelby Z or Z/24. Heck maybe they should have used a 20 year old GN with aluminum drums and S-10 wheel cylinders if they wanted the rear end to lock up easy.

Okay I found the link that answers a lot of questions. Straight from Ford Motor Co of all places is this one stating that the auto versions are cloned GT's made to look like Shelbys. Media.Ford.com: 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR Lands Starring Role on Knight Rider
The GT500KR is built up from a Mustang GT with an automatic transmission to facilitate the driving scenes, stunts, and camera work necessary to produce the great action scenes in the movie. Stunt versions were also built for doing all of the aggressive driving maneuvers.

And here is the story on how badly Ford wanted to follow in GMs footsteps after the sucess of Transformers.
'Knight Rider' Reborn, Pilots Killed Off - Advertising Age - MediaWorks

Looks like Ford has their head up their butts if you ask me? All GM had to do is supply the cars for the movie. Ford has to buy air time on top of the deal.

Looks like Wednesday night is going to be just like Saturday mornings for us adults. Assuming NBC can cash in on that old idea of making a TV show an hour long commercial. It work for Pontiac back in the 80's. Not so good with Dodge and the Dukes of Hazzard. You couldn't walk into the showroom and buy a new Charger unless it was the FWD crap version.

... and if the car is a manual, the motor dies when you do this.

Hence the need for an automatic.

Dukes failed IMO because in the remake, Boss acted like old Roscoe, and Roscoe acted like old boss. The writer was not a fan like I was apparently. At least they had CNH320 as the tag #, that was right.
Knight Rider is just wrong as a mustang.....I fail to believe any mustang has a personality.

Well Ijust LUUUVVVVV the "Headlight rollbars", the cooling system mods (you know airflow is overrated anyhow, and man WINGS WINGS WINGS...with the wings it must be a fast car........mustangs are gay Jon

Kitt is going to be voiced by the actor that portrays the idiot-magician brother from "Arrested Development" so they may just have captured the personality of a Mustang.
