post some detailed pics of the engine bay, so we can identify whats missing.

The quickest way to get it running is a good used engine, anything else will add tons of time.

Does the car have an engine at all? If not, how was the old one removed (when scrapping things in a junkyard, harnesses and hoses get cut rather than disconnected)

When you say it needs an engine, what about a transmission or torque converter? radiator? steering parts?

Bob

(pics will help a lot)

check the forsale section, theres a guy that is selling both left and right fenders. i have an extra stock ECU if you need one. real cheap. hell, send me a 12 of coronas an ill give it to you if you need it.

it need the motor only everything else is there and it was removed in hopes of putting another one in it. I got a number to guy Im going to call again cause he didnt answer the first time.

thats why Im jst focused on getting him a stock motor for now.

Ok post up some pics whenever you get a chance because if you have 6500 to work with you might could just find him another running car.

But if the car he has is in decent shape id go ahead and buy a semi low milleage engine, thats still all together. Heads, intake, throttle body, all that junk. Id buy him a double roller timing chain and put that on there. Put him some new headgaskets on and clean all the carbon off the valves. Put some new valve springs in as well. Then buy him whichever turbo he would like, id try to get a more factory styled one. Also buy him a set of headers while your at it. O and depending on if the engine came with it or not you would need an intercooler. Maybe ask around and see if he wants a stock location intercooler or one that mounts in the front behind the grill. That would get him pretty much set as long as his transmission is good to go. Also with a larger turbo you would probably want to get him a new tourqe convertor.

All that should be able to get done for maybe around 3-4k or so i would think.

The car is at his moms house and its 2 hours away from where we live at. I will buy him another lower mileage motor everything is there for the motor spec the intercooler.

He dosent want a running car, but to save the one he has.

Theres a guy selling a motor for $4,000 in the parts for sale section right now, might want to check that out.

...if you have 6500 to work with you might could just find him another running car....

You might be able to find one with high miles which is otherwise perfectly running as a driver. Then sell the one you have now for parts, and then when he gets back he can work on a new motor while the car is still drivable. $6500 will disappear in a hurry on a restoration. We are speaking from experience. It's all the little unknowns that add up, downpipe, injectors, engine mounts, wires, fittings, sensors, scanmaster...etc etc...

Ive already tryed that with him and he isnt wanting to do that at all.

If you want to have an engine built then a large portion of your bank will go into that. The most economical way is an engine out of a running car. The engine will easily take 1/3 to 1/2 of your budget if you get a decent builder. If you get a local that knows nothing about Buick turbo motors to do it then you're waisting your money.
