I've been struggling with how to fabricate the intake port runner entries. I even started bending up some aluminum sheet metal, but I just didn't feel comfortable with how things were progressing. I just never felt that how I was doing it was the right way it needed to be with this particular intake. It didn't feel like the port entries were living up to the rest of the intake.
Yesterday, the idea hit me. I knew if I mulled it over long enough, the definitive idea would finally come around. I'm going to scrap the port entry plates that I've already made and machine the port entries out of billet aluminum. All one piece, no welding involved. It will be along the same lines as the intake runners, but will be all one piece for each runner. The entry will incorporate the entry plate and the entry flare. The flare opening will be extended up, at the bottom edge by about .710", to make the rectangular opening perpendicular to the actual centerline of the intake port. The flares will be equivalent to about a 5/8" radius, and hopefully will be of an elliptical shape. These will be machined from a block of 4 x 6 x 2 6061 aluminum billet, on my manual milling machine, so this will not be completed real quickly. I'm guessing a couple weeks. The present entry plates that I have will be used to transfer the bolt patterns to the new port entries.
After the port entries are finished, it will be time to pick out a color for an anodizing process. What color should they be anodized?
