SignUp Now!guys---------i can absolutely answer this as yes because i have done low 12's with the stock box as far back as mid 90's------- a few thoughts------look at the times posted in the GNX book for initial tests------i think it was low 13's back in 86------those cars were not very modified and had slippery gatorbacks---------that would almost guarantee you could go high 12's if you did little else------say good tires, larger turbo, fuel pump and 36 lb injectors--------if you want to do it i can give you some advice---------99.99999% of the world is gonna not believe me but its true nonetheless---------the stock AC delco air filter will outflow the K&N that fits the stock airbox--------i would not have believed it but about 4 years ago trey crease (used to own 0 to 60) and pete hoffman (presently works for dennis kirban) were visiting me in NC at my shop to rebuild their transmissions---------trey had been talking to some of the folks at gm about some performance product being developed in the cadillac division (probably the CTSV) and the subject of air cleaners came up--------trey said that the gm folks said that they tried a K&N unit and it didn't do as well as the AC unit--------i remember we were at lunch and i said that was ridiculous--------i couldn't wait to get back to the shop and show trey how wrong that had to be---------i have a couple Superflow flow benches ----a 600 and a 1200---------i fabricated a few fixtures to attach a stock GM air box to the 600 and started the tests-------it was immediately obvious that the AC outflowed the K&N by quite a bit---------undaunted i went to the shelf and got another K&N right out of the box-------i tried it unoiled with similar results-------i carefully oiled it and got slightly different but similar results----------i went and got another AC unit and it still outflowed the K&N's---------i went to one of my really mint GN's with less than 10 miles and removed a "vintage" 87 filter and got similar results--------- i did the tests and still have trouble believing it-------good thing i didn't bet money cause i would have bet big money on the outcome of this test------talk to pete hoffman at kirban performance---------he was a witness and wrote down the actual flow numbers---------my best recollection is the the K&N flowed about 10% less than the AC with the same pressure drop--------while we were at it we tried a fram and all i can say is "if you want to jam it fram it"----------want another "believe it or not"????---------the stock airbox actually flows better with that silly looking duct in place------yea, the one that attaches to the box and pokes through the radiator support-------memory says that snorkle looking thing improved things about 5%----------anyone want to see this for themselves please feel free to stop by...............RC
richard i wanted to know how well kirbans aluminum plate the uncovers the bottom of the airbox would flow with all 3 filters . and i didnt understand what you ment about if you want to jam it fram it does that mean that it didnt do well in the test.

i was stunned when i read this until i reread this important line. the K&N tested is not the cone filter that 99% of us use. that is an important bit of info that may be overlooked.

if that had happened i would not be able to post about it------i would be dead from a heart attack caused by total disbelief of everything-------even so you got to admit what i said is hard to accept-------i am reasonably confident that is not the case with the other stock location K&N filters on the market but how did they let the one for the GN slip by the testing dept---------were they just so confident about the results that they didn't do any comparison tests------in the last 20 years they have probably sold nearly one for every GN-------i don't think it fits anything else?????now that i think about it the in store tester that is so impressive always has a fram for a comparison-------anybody else seen the point of sale demo with the fan and the two filters with the floating ball??????------kinda makes me wonder????????????and makes me want to do some more testing---------this may not be as much agout K&N as it is about fram.................RC
