wow glad you are ok. was the freeway wet? i know my rearend came out once when i got on the throttle with ET Streets in some water that what happens when your alomost running on slick that only have 2 small groves in them.might want to switch to the ET Street Radials as there is more groves in them and they hook up really well. Well glad your ok and the car is ok could have been alot worse.

thank you for your concern, it was wet but no standing water, and i know for a fact that i was only doing 40mph cause i was keeping her at that speed because of the rain, you are right it could have been ALOT WORSE i did a 360 and did'nt get nailed by nor did i hit any other car, Thank God..

i am a bit nervous even now:redface:

wow.... good to hear ya made it out with only a little damage  could have been a hell of a crash .. we just run the drag radials .... been in thunder storms with them to  I may have a tailight here if ya can't find one  I lived down there years ago .... Model A's were all over the place ;) .... seriously I remember storms hit fast and quick!!! then 20 min later it was dry out !!!

thanks grumpy, this happened with MT ET STREET radials, and your right about the rain, it just so happen's that the only area that was raining at was from 125st to 103st (on I-95) after 103st. not a drop of water  ,
if you do have a tail-light (passenger side) i'll take it, just tell me where and how much to send, i'm just angry at my-self for damageing my car, i've been working so hard to get it to this point and now this ................

Thanks again for your concern Grumpy, if you do have that tail light please let me know.

ET's in the rain

Thank God you're ok. ET's are one of the worst on any wet surface, you say you were only going 40 that cracks me up because just rolling from a stop my friends car would turn sideways, it was scary we had to crawl home at 25mph from the racetrack. From that experience and out here in the desert we get monsoons and rain can come down quick and hard the best DR in the rain one you could actually drive 40 is the Nitto555r. It's a trade off and if you have to drive in the rain or you get caught you better hope you have Nittos otherwise you'll be slip slidin away. Again glad you're ok!

thanks for your concern chavo, you are right it is scary when you have no control of your car, and that's the speed i went home at 25mph.unreal day started of great my mechanic did me a favor by coming in on a saturday to fix-up a gas leak that i had, i leave there happy as heck and then 30min later i'm on the opposite side of the spectrum....

Glad to hear you're ok no-nos.
I do believe you are the first TB.com member to report this situation while driving on MT ET Drag Radials. A lot of people have put faith in them because of them having more grooves. I for one, do not. I learned a long time ago, unless you have a real tread pattern such as regular radials or Hoosier Quick Times, any drag radial with wide smooth patch of rubber will come around on you really quick in rain or damp surfaces. One thing I do to this day whenever I take mine out on MT ET Street bias plys, is to keep one regular radial in the trunk with a small jack, some towels and a 4 way. If it starts raining, I will put the radial on the back right and still drive home slowly. (Heck even last night with the threat of rain at a car show I was ready to do this if necessary.
Again, good to hear you're ok, you might want to take it easy for a few days to heal up. (Back and neck) This should be a very good word of caution to all other Turbo Buick owners out there, who are putting faith in their own drag radials to be ok in the rain.
Glad you're ok.

Patrick

thank you for your concern RUQWKNF, you are right about trusting these tires, i can say i will never buy them again, not for daily driving that's for sure, i have to now go back to the auto-body shop and see how much this is going to cost me:confused: , i told the auto-body guy and he could not believe it, he worked on my car alot even he felt bad, offered a tow truck too ( nice of him) but you are right i will go with Hoosier Quick Times, or some gator backs

Anyways, im glad your fine but that sucks about the car. Like many have said, its good that you didnt hit anyone. The car will look great again, dont worry. This is a lesson, and you sure will remember next time.

Heres a little story of mine...sorry since its encounters rain, and bald radials....and many bad things.

Last august my car was dieing a lot, and I thought it was these grounds that were under the wiper motor, so i took the motor off, but couldnt get to the last bolt, so i put them all back on. (found out it was the orange wire to the ECM) well, then a few weeks later it rained BAAAD when I was at work, at night, so i tried the wipers and NOTHING! they didnt work. Well i was confused and mad.

Oh, and thats the same day i realized my heater didnt blow...

So i was driving home in the rain, on the high way, on bald BFG Drag radials, no windshield wipers, pouring ass rain, the windows cracked a little because it was getting foggy, it was getting pretty wet inside, and the car doesnt have a rear window defog since it didnt come with it from the factory. Oh and my air filter was down by my front wheel too! I was going about 35-45 on the highway. It was the most miserable drive of my life!! I didnt spin out at all, hit many big puddles of water, and theres a turn thats pretty sharp, thats a bridge.

Hope everything ends up good in the end!

-Adam

Wow, I didn't think the ET Streets would be too awful in the rain. Obviously not ideal for traction but I thought they still had enough tread to direct water out from the tire and keep you going straight.

I haven't had mine out in the rain yet since having the new tires and definitely don't plan on it now!

I feel your pain. Some guys are able to live with the attitide that "it's just plastic and metal" but I can't think that way, whenever anything happens to my car it gets me in a bad mood for days at a time, so I'm sure this isn't a pleasant thing to go through. But as it's been pointed out many times, could have been a lot worse, and just have to keep telling yourself that.

the damage doesn't look that bad, and you are ok so cheer up :)

I have MT et radials and have never had a problem just gotta know your limits.

the 555Rs are like all weather tires in my book, I had them on my firebird. I even drove them up to big bear (ski area) not the best choice for an ice parking lot.

Now 28x10.5 et drags dont like the rain so much. You start to go sideways at around 45

I think it pays to get out mess around with a beater in poor conditions to get an idea of what it feels like when the tires lose contact with the ground.

Any wreck you can walk away from is a good one!

As for the ET streets, I'm sorry about your car and back, but you can't put the blame off on the tires. It was raining and dipsite no standing water and driving slow, the road was still wet. Thankfully no one else was around when this took place.

Glad you are alright No Nos, sucks to have just painted it but hopefully your insurance will help out ( ditch those tires now ).
But that must of been one wicked 5 seconds of thoughts running through your mind!!    :frown:

I have the ET Streets on my GTO and they blow in any hint of wetness. I almost learned the hard way on that one crawling around a corner trying to get home.

Since it rains like mad in FL I would go no stickier than the Nittos. I plan on running these due to the issues you just had, I will take the tenth loss in 60ft over doing 360's on the highway getting caught in the rain.

I spun my car 360* on I-10 when an 18 wheeler passed me. I was going 40mph with bald MT Drag radials. It's a long story why I was in the rain with a bald drag radial, but it scared the hell out of me. Nitto's are on the car right now.

You're ok !

That's sad to hear :frown: Car recently repainted :frown: ...you're ok & that's what matters. Get some Mt DR instead & that car will be up again like it was soon. I have a feeling you're not going to leave it like that 4 too long. :D

I am also glad you're okay. I have been running the ET streets continuosly since I got the 3 months ago. My GN is a garage queen and she doesn't see rain if i can help it. But thanks for the heads up, I will defiinitely be careful on the wet stuff.

hmmmm... roads up here in New England are not the best BUT we have been running drag radials for years ... Melissa had over 9k on her car last summer !! only time "I" had a problem was when I got caught in a snow storm (just a dusting) but car wanted to go its own way :p ...
