Yup you saw that right, supposedly from the guy thats rebuilding my trans, the converter (3000 Lu 9/12 inch) wasnt letting the car shift under 4000. fried the tranny in seconds. I dont know what to believe or do, he said get another converter and he'll rebuild it again, what do you guys recommend for a converter? street driven gn, stock turbo, minor bolt ons...planning on upgrading to a 60 mm soon, dont want to fork out any more than 400-450 for a converter.

PTC 2800 10" would be the way to go .. dusty bradford, twisted 6 racing . he is a member here . oh ..... i'd find a new tranny builder ,sounds like bullchit to me .

PTC is niice. I would let someone else rebuild it with a good rep. Dosent cost much to ship. I shipped 2 @ 1 time

I know, im really stressed out now....i already paid the dude 600 bucks up front, now how am i gonna get that money back? also, how much is it usually to have the 200 rebuilt for 500/500?

He's going to buy it, I'm not paying for his **ckups. I am more upset about the converter that I just bought, he said it was glowing orange it was so hot, WTF? Now I dont know how i am going to get it shipped out and get another one anytime soon.

Who installed the transmission?

It's about $1200 to have one properly gone through for the first time and have any kind
of guarantee.

#1. Find a new builder. If a trans expert blames any converter for shift timing, find another builder. A converter doesn't know what gear a trans is in. All it knows is fluid in, fluid out and load. A higher stall converter can make a shift feel softer or cause it to have very little rpm drop at WOT but it will not keep the trans from shifting or cause it to shift early.

I can build you a non lock for $450 or a lock-up for $500. Or I can go through your 9 1/2 to see what may be the issue but I'd say your converter is most likely fine, the builder is the problem.

It is a CK 3000 L/U the one rated for 500hp. I can almost guarantee you Dusty is right, and I am very upset with this guy right now because this is my first time ever being able to afford somebody to do work like this for me (20 years old) and he jacked it all up. Now in your opinion guys, I don't know what to do now. He has 600 of my dollars already, he was charging me 1400 total including removal and installation. He is definitely blaming it on the converter but knows on the inside he messed the installation (probably something with the valvebody) up. Should I let him try and rebuild it one more time? I have a feeling I am going to have a hard time getting that money back if I end up telling him to stop. I also am going to have to send the converter (which is only a month old, and this is the first time its ever been run) back to ck to check for problems. I hope, really hope, they will fix it or send me another one, if not just tell me it has no problems at all. He said it wouldnt go anywhere under 3600 rpms, and he took it around the block and by the time he got back there was smoke coming out from the dipstick and that the converter was glowing. :(

The converter is not at fault. I wonder if it was getting fluid or the trans was low on fluid.. That would certainly cause the heat issue. You NEED to find a new builder.. I wouldn't let him touch it again. How to get back your money.. I am not completely sure. I have a feeling this will end in a lawsuit. I would get the car and the trans back from him if possible... He probably will try to hold both if you try to get your money back. Once you have those in possession, demand the money.. Threaten lawsuit, etc. That's an idea at least..

I highly doubt the converter was glowing. If it got real hot and never got under 3600 rpm then it was starved for fluid. Either due to not filling it up all the way or something with the pump or trans is not getting fluid to the converter properly. I'd ask for my money back and go another direction.

I wouldnt count on getting your money back. I would definitely demand it though. Sounds like a $600.00 lesson in life. I have had more than my share. Good luck.
