Torque straps now available.

After being unable to find any torque straps that were once supplied by one of my favorite vendors. I found a source & had some made up. $29.95 plus reasonable shipping. I'm not trying to get rich here but those things worked well & couldn't figure out why they were ever discontinued. To those with patriotic values they are also made in the U.S.

It's two pieces of bent steel, some threaded rod, and a small turnbuckle. All the pieces are available a your local hardware store.

These are the same ratchet straps with wire style hooks on either end that Kirban once offered & discontinued. They were simple & effective & I searched every home depot & hard ware store around trying to find something that would work as well to no avail. I finally contacted a company & had them made to the same specs that were once offered.If I can figure out how to post some pictures here I will do that other wise PM me an e-mail address & will do it that way.I have a limited supply & if the demand is there will have some more made up. I'm just had some time on my hands & trying to save everyone else the hassle. As far as I'm concerned if Dennis wants to offer them again I have no problem with that it was his idea in the first place. It's just like the TH downpipes that were once offered & no longer available at a reasonable price. At least not to my knowledge.

Does this bolt to the back of the driver's side head and then to the frame?

It bolts to the alternator bracket.

One end hooks to a supplied threaded loop that goes through the alt. bracket. The other end hooks to a slot in the side of the frame. Takes about 5 min. to install. I will try & post some pictures soon.

Anyone thats been around these cars for a while knows that they work & $29.00 is not a huge investment. Its hardly worth my trouble but what irritates me is so many things are going by the wayside that worked & no longer available. When I couldn't find one of those stupid straps anywhere I decided to have some made. I curse the day that Terry Houston was no longer able to supply those great downpipes.There were some attempts to duplicate them but were of poor quality & even they are no longer available. If someone has one for sale let me know.

I agree that they work as well as can be expected for the price. I had one on my car for about a year. That is of course until it broke at my alternator bolt and caused a boatload of problems and money. Although they do the job inexpensively initially, I think they have the potential to cause expensive damage. Just my opinion of course, but I also think they look like ass and the more intelligent move is to a single or set of Poly mounts from HRpartsNstuff. I guess if you want to save a few bucks, are willing to take the chance of breakage and don't mind the look. Go for it. I have had the Poly mounts in my car now for 6 years with zero complaints.

If you overtightened the strap than of course something has to give Perhaps it's a stretch to assume that a little common sense is involved here . I have tried poly & solid mounts but couldn't tolerate the vibration transmitted into the chassis. Actually if your putting that much force against the mounts your making serious enough power to consider a motor plate. This thread is to help the 90% of street driven cars out there that wouldn't encounter any such issues. If we are talking serious race car than no a $29.00 strap isn't the answer.

Lou, I wasn't trying to make light of the fact that they do work. You obviously don't know me very well. I am not a BS kinda guy. Mine didn't last and it failed miserably. I will give it to you that I may have over tightened it. I guess that's possible. It broke my alternator and the strap tangled in my belt. I had to replace the alternator, belt and the air conditioning pump pulley. The flying strap also caused my chrome MAF pipe to look like it was beat with a hammer. Is that enough damage for you? I am sure if there was a poll you will find that I am not the only one that doesn't care for them. There is a reason some things should fade away. Needless to say, I agree with you on one thing. Yes, they are a cheap alternative. I was just conveying my personal experience with mine. I guess I was one of the unfortunate ones and all the rest work great. As I look at the title of this thread I see it wasn't a discussion on the merits of the strap itself, but a sales thread. I apologize for hijacking. I won't post anything else on this thread.

This is a good thing I'd say. Ive had one on my GN since the second day Ive owned it. Never had a problem. I just went out and bought a hardened 3/8" eye bolt for $10 from my local Grainger's and its been fine ever since. Total investment of $40 beats the $300 or whatever for the poly mounts. Maybe its because its cheap and it works. If I had the money to buy the poly mounts, I would.
