Tracking devices and Alarm systems

To help and try to prevent some further issues I would like to supply info on tracking systems and alarm systems.

My job for 20+ years has been 12v car electronics dedicated to New Car Dealers. We have been using VIPER alarms this whole time and Guidepoint tracking systems for about 10 years. I have several other brands but these would be the 2 I suggest as they have been in business for several years and more to come.

I hear almost every day about car theft and a simple $200 VIPER alarm would stop 99% of it.

Do to dealer agreements most likely I will not be able to post pricing but I will offer individual pricing as best as I can to people that are interested.

I will post more later when I get settled in better.

The GN's and tow vehicles no problem to protect.
The challenge is the enclosed trailer,I installed a VIPER 1 in mine today and it worked fine only in one spot on the nose (inside).

Anything broadcasting a GPS signal is going to be tough to go past the inside of the trailer.

I will continue to check it out.

I'm somewhat paranoid when it comes to security systems for my home, shop, and businesses. Last weekend's BG incident is my worst fear. I've always taken precautions with my rig when leaving it overnight in hotel parking lots but I'm getting serious now. Hind sight is always 20/20 and I've been putting this off installing a serious security system on the tow rig for years.

Don hooked me up with a sweet deal on a fully pimped out alarm system with remote start via cell phone and GPS tracking.

Folks - you need to take the man up on his offer or get something locally. Don't let the next victim be YOU!

Aren't the tire boots used by parking lots, meter maids, etc, sold to the public??
I would think that just seeing a booted trailer, tow vehicle would deter a thief... Too much time, too much noise, to get the vehicle.

Some racer to racer cooperation mite help, too. A good sized, hardened chain, locked thru 2 trailers, 2 cars, etc, could make the theft a bit more difficult.
Not many dirtbags are going to be carrying a large bolt cutter.. TIME is their ally. Snatch and run is the mo...[How long did the vid show it took for Billy's rig to be moving?? Seconds.

Hopefully, the alarms being used are more than noise...How often do you hear 1 go off, and pay no attention to it????????

I am looking at a couple of these. Imagine one on the tow truck, one on trailer, and one on the car. I would rather the rig did not get swiped then have to track it with GPS.

Parking boots are an option but they are bulky, heavy, and a complete PITA to put on and take off each time you stop somewhere.

Bottom line is any form of visual and/or audio deterrent - even if it's just a blinking light - will head off the majority of would be thieves. Anything that slows them down and hopefully draws attention is a plus.

The GPS tracking is a bit extreme but if the victims at BG would have had it this would have been over quickly. I like the idea of having the system notify me via my cell phone if there's an issue.

Just hope that everyone does SOMETHING to cover their rears.

Yep, a boot is a PITA.... Walking home after filling out a theft report with a care not, Keystone kop, is a bigger inconvenience, IMO.
