i plan to have a th350{bop case} built for my `86 gn. questions/help please.
what tailshaft do i need 6" or 9" to run stock driveshaft w/o cutting it ?
where do i hook up kick down cable for down shifts and vacuum line for modulator for up shift points ?
if anybody has done this, who makes a converter that will hold up and stall where there supposed to?
i`ve had nothing but problems w/the 200r4.no quality rebuilders in southern mi. going to old and trusty th350 w/gear vendor o.d.
thanks for any help.

You would need the 6" tail to use stock DS. With the GV you'll have to cut anyway.
You'll need TransGo "VBP-VAC">> Tough Stuff to run the Modulator. Pic on Post #161>> http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/transmission-talk/255286-th400-build-pictures-5.html
For a converter, talk to Dusty Bradford on here.

gv?

whats gv stand for? what about kick down cable?.don`t really want to run manual valve body.
thanks.

Why would u wanna do that? Ship it to someone who knows what they are doing to build ur 200. They can hold 800+ hp. PM Bison. He builds a nasty 200 and will do it for a reasonable price.

GV = Gear Vendors O/D, DS/DriveShaft would need to be much shorter if you used this.
Detent/KickDown cable would hook to your throttle linkage & bracket where 2004R's TV/ThrottleValve cable was. May require slight Mods.

For what you'll spend on the GV you could have a very strong 2004R trans built by one of the Vendors on this site. ^^^^

GV's are expensive and HEAVY. Like said above. If ur gonna spend that kinda money then just buy a new 200 from a reputable vendor.

Run the shorter output shaft. The tailshaft is not used with a GV unit. Keep in mind that you will be adding weight and possible tunnel interference. Also, the GV unit is not like having a properly built GM OD trans. They are a bit clunky and cumbersome to use. Also the shifts are more of a transition.

These were originally designed for motorhomes, custom vans etc. in the 70's during the first gas crunch. Excellent quality and durable, but not really a "performance" part. Lots of money to gamble if you hate it. I would really research it and talk to others that have them in their cars.

I was dead set on one until I talked to some folks who used them. I ended up with a properly set up 200-4R and have since put them in our older GM musclecars (GTO, Formula etc.). They have logged many miles and several decades without failure.

I understand you are fed up but now is not the time to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Consider the fact that you are already aware of the lack of good 200-4R builders in your area. However, we live in the age of UPS and the internet. This site has probably the best group of builders I have encountered. Use the resource. In the long run, it is less expensive and more rewarding to have that GN box done up properly than going down a whole other path. FWIW.
