im just curious why ive been seeing a lot of low 11 high 10 sec TR's running a bop th350 trans. are they stronger than the 200r4 or cost less to beef up. i know the 480le is the way to go for gn's but how strong is the 350?

I know two high 10 sec cars with 11sec speed parts and I am wondering if those are cars running faster due to the 350 trans.

Don't know if this helps? There is a big difference in the gear drop in a 700R4 and 2004R from 1st to 2nd. I think the 700R4 is 3.06 1st gear, 2004R is 2.74 and 350 is 2.53. 700r4's are notoriously fast in 1st gear , but loose E.T. in quater mile because of drop from 1st to 2nd. I believe 350 has a more even drop accross the gears. I have the exact gear ratios in my Lingenfelter book, but can't find them right now. If you need them I will find the book.

thanks darkside...im not in the process of converting to a th350....i was just wondering why everyone else is. from what i have heard, is the th350 is much stronger, costs less, more readily available than the 200 r4, and the converters are much less. Besides its almost a direct bolt in. the th 400 although stronger, has more internal drag. of course there is no overdrive though.

A TH-350 can be made to run extremely quick.

It can be quite spendy but an NHRA stocker-style TH-350 is built with billet aluminum drums, thrust bearings in place of washers, lightened hardparts, etc.

You then have an extremely efficient transmission with considerably less inertia and drag than a stock TH-350 or even a 200-4R. The strength is more than adaquate for 10's.

BTW, factory ratios are 2.52, 1.52. 1.00 with aftermarket 2.75 gearsets a popular choice for racing.
