I read the archives and it seems that this question has never really been answered. Most threads end with fewer than 5 posts.

If there are any fluid folks or trans folks....their opinions would be appreciated.

1) Should you run Type F?
2) What gains will you see?
3) What problems might you see?
4) Can you mix it with regular Dextron? I ask because even if I drain the pan there will still be some fluid in the TC and lines.

Getting ready to put my Art Carr shift kit in and in the instructions it suggests Type F for 'firmer shifts' but warns that in colder climates I might see some changes in trans behavior.

Thoughts, personal observations, and suggestions most welcome.

Get some mobil Fluid 424. I bought a 5 gallon bucket for 30 bucks. Haven't put it in cause the car ain't running but heard alot of people using it with good success a while ago.

Check with Bruce at Performance Trans. He recommended it a while back and everyone that used it loves it. Better yet, do a search for it. I am sure you will see all the acclaim that it received.

I've been using type F fluid for over 14 years. My car has over 600 runs on it and the trans is still stock and original except for a cooler and shift kit I put in 14 years ago. I just change the fluid every 10k miles. At the time, the reasoning behind using type F fluid was it is rated to a higher heat level. Paul

From what I heard about Type F is that it is thinner which makes it easier to heat up causing tranny failure. This is also the reason for it shifting harder with it. I have no experience with it. This is what I was told by someone who races turbo and nitrous Mustangs. Its pretty bad when a Ford guy tells me he uses Chevy tranny fluid for these reasons
