Frank, how are you? I hope you do not mind me visiting your site and discussing some things with you. I am the 'ricer' in question who shot this video. I thought I might come and give you the story from my point of view (seeing as I was actually there).
First, the Lightning owner is a former SHO owner, and a friend. He accompanied us (the TX SHO club) on a little back roads drive the day before our track event (road course, not drag strip). On the way to the drive we decided to have a little highway fun. Perhaps not as exciting as racing from a dig, but being that we were on a public highway we had to use some discretion, and stopping in the middle of the highway was out of the question. That said, the L and I line up, and on a 3-2-1 countdown, the L goes on 3. He gets that big jump, I chase, and the result is what you see in the video. He never let off. You can speak to him if you would like to verify. His truck is very capable (1.6 60's) and would slaughter me in a 1/4 drag race. But he 'only' makes 418whp, which for the heft and drag of his vehicle is not enough to hang with even a lesser powered SHO on the highway.
I don't have to speak to the owners. I *KNOW* what a modified C5 could do top end to ANY SHO you can come up with..
Just because th eowners of the other cars did not keep thir foot into it over 135 or so does NOT mean the SHO's are faster.. Sorry.. dreamland.. Im not a kid who don't know better..
Please tell me frank, what can a modified C5 do top end? Please give me some hard numbers. I have spoken with a number of Vette owners, and have compared their top end acceleration times to mine. Perhaps you are aware of what a C5 can do top end, but it is plain to see you are not enlightened concerning what a boosted SHO can do on the highway. I gain 30+ mph in the last 1/8th (even 34mph once). That was with 380whp and 358ft lbs. I now am making 50 more rwhp and 54 more ft lbs. My 115 mph traps are sure to improve now. I have a better vid with better sound, and it is obvious that as soon as the Vette shifts into 4th I start pulling easily. It is also quite obvious in the first vid that I let out first, for as soon as I do the Vette shoots past because he was still in it. The owner readily admits that while we were fairly well matched until 120, from there up I was pulling decisively.
Your points about highway racing are valid. I would love to have some vids from a dig, and I will soon. But nearly 500 crank hp and 235/35 19in street tires do not mix well with heavy FWD sedans (3300+ lbs). 1st and 2nd are useless with any appreciable boost. I did not build this car to be a 1/4 warrior. It is set up for daily driving, fun weekends and for the 4-5 road course events I do each year. Some cars are better suited to the drag strip, mine is not one of those cars. Making vids of me roasting my tires on launch while 1.6 short time Lightnings scream off into the distant horizon does not sound like an enjoyable venture, but given your distaste for any other form of accleration contest except the 1/4 mile, perhaps that vid would suit you. I will look into making one.
Here is the link to a hi-res version with the music volume turned down. (sorry, link appears to be down right now)

You can clearly hear the L and Vette engines, and you can clearly see that neither let off in the races. All the vehicles involved had a great time, there were no egos inflated or crushed, and we all talked merrily later over a few beers. Why people who were not there and know little about the cars inlvolved see the need to bash my car and this fun innocent video is beyond me. All in the group knew the Lightning would kill all comers on a dragstrip, with the Vette in 2nd place and the SHO's way off the back. We did not however know what the outcome would be in some friendly highway jaunts, so we wanted to find out. And we did. The red SHO beat all. Sorry if this does not sit well with you gentleman.
You have a nice board. I hope in the future I can add some insight to the intelligent discussion that goes on here.
BTW, I did not see my above friend's post until after I made mine. Please don't think we plan on having a bunch of SHO guys over trying to talk smack. Felt though that since it was our vehicles involved, a post would be okay.
