I drove to my brother's house today to pick up some firewood.

Listened to the exhaust leak that the $500 SS downpipe and dump pipe didn't fix the whole way there. Watched the knock gauge light up as the engine red-lined when it shifted (slipped is more like it) to 3rd gear with my 'new' transmission.

I'm f***ing done with this s**t. Anyone want to buy a GN?

Jim

ive done alot. i will post pictures this weekend. got my new wheels and tires. stock T-type wheels with M/T ET Street Radials mounted. Pulled my Powersteering pump pully and bracket and took them to the powder coaters, pulled the oil pan to fix my oil leak, pulled the turbo off and sent it to precision so they can fix there fup, pulled trans pan and installed a new 700 TCC 2 pressure switches and a new pan gasket.

Ouch.

well with winter comming fast, one thing we got going for us snow peeps is we can put it away, regroup and start in spring, I still havent fixed my pinion clunk from whoever set it up and the guy who bought my 76 stinkray project car still hasnt been by to pick it up after 4 weeks and its still on my jackstands cause it didnt come with wheels and its really in my way.

other then that it was to cold to want to do anything once i got home from work

im glad i live in arizona :)

Last night I installed a spacer in the TV plunger in the trans. While in there replaced the filter, topped off with Mobil 424 trans fluid.

Changed motor oil and refilled, added a little EOS.

Tonight I am going to find a way to install the Spal fans that just came in, thank you Mrs. Hartline. Also going to wire up the TCC lock switch and start the manual fan wiring, waiting on the switch still.

How do you like that mobile 424 oil in the transmission?
What were you running before?

Oh and yesterday i installed a ta61 turbo and 009 injectors on my white limited. It was running 11.7 - 11.8 on the stock turbo..

Goal this spring is 10.9's

Should run 11.4's this saturday if i get the boost under control. :)

Brian recommended the 424 for heat. Something about it tolerating heat a lot better. I only used the transbrake once and that was a low boost on. 424 is clear so it is harder to tell if you have an engine or tranny leak.
Before I was running regular GM trans fluid.

Good luck this weekend, I am not going to be able to make it up.

Amen to that. It would be nice to have warm weather year round but I think my wallet and my sanity appreciate taking a break from the car for a while.

Actually, you're right. I HATE taking a break from my sophie, but my mental health REALLY appreciates it lol. I get wrapped around the axle about 2 weeks before snow hits, so I go out there and do everything I can, and drive it as much as I can before the 'big break'. But it sure is nice knowing theres a small timeframe where I cant do ANYthing to it. Id lose my house and my sanity if that werent the case.

Okay....I took a deep breath and counted to ten......

I put the GN back up in the position it had been in since July:

The exhaust story goes like this: I have a huge leak. I could feel air coming out between the dump pipe and exhaust system flanges. I attempt to remove said dump pipe and destroy my mild steel THDP in the process. It turns out there were HUGE chunks of rust from the decomposing downpipe that had clogged the dump pipe anyway. I bought a down pipe that didn't fit. Returned it and got another down pipe that did fit. After weeks of frustration I bolt it all together and it still leaks - but the flange is sealed now. So where's the leak?

Just call me Captain Obvious:

I didn't see that before because my search was focused on the flange and y-pipe weld. Plus my exhaust system is covered in oil spots so those holes blended right in.

The moral: if your car sits a lot get SS exhaust parts.

Now, on to the transmission. There's a pressure problem and it has to come out. I just need to suck it up and get wrenching.

Jim

Which downpipe didn't fit? Just curious.

Before I say which one it was, I have to say that this guy has sold lots of them with very few problems. For whatever reason, it wouldn't fit my car. It was a 3.5" SS from Gbodyparts.com. Brian took it back without any issue.

I put a 3" RJC SS pipe on it instead.

Now I have to decide what exhaust system to put on the car. I really like the looks of my 3" duals but there aren't many people making 3" duals in SS these days.

Jim

Yeah those 3.5" pipes can be tricky. I have one arriving Monday (from a different vendor) and am worried that it won't fit, that's why I asked which downpipe you used. I wasn't trying to get you to name the vendor just to make them look bad, there's too many variables on each car for them to really promise that it'll fit 100%. Hopefully I can get mine to fit.

Well i drove the SloGN down to eastern NC about 4hrs away to put some miles on the new motor.when i got here i swapped out the mease power plenum for a stock plenum and a RJC power plate. i also installed my air temp sensor in the stock plenum for the fast system.

I plan on giving it one hell of a bath tomorrow to get all the smudge prints off of it from today

Went to the racetrack and tuned the car on a new ta61 turbo and 009 injectors.

11.19 121 same white car that went 11.76 at 114 with stock turbo and inj.

I just put the turbo on this car wednesday, last weekend was in noble running 11.90's with bad 60's

27psi of boost 28° and 24°

Buddy of mine also went 10.94 on his 6152 with high Z 60's on a 1.55 sixty.

thanks. when you get bored you think of things to do. i would really like to put the upgraded wheel cylinders but i dont want to bleed the brakes right now. i also have braided lines for the front and rear but those will wait as well. i just want my damn turbo back. this is just killing time. tomorrow is lc-1 install time on my brother car (thanks mike for the new lc1) since the old one went out. and then its time to install my factory radio back in the car. :)

Good luck. As you say there are many variables. I'm not sure which one was the problem with mine, but I went back down to a 3" and it's fine.
