Not anywhere near the oldest........but in 1984/85 I was a tech for a Chrysler dealer when some tow truck drug a
Imperial 318 EFI (mid 80s) in off the interstate. DOA. I had never seen one nor had anyone else there. Long story short, no tech data. So I called the rep." hey i got this 318 efi Imperial" phone went dead. Called back, same thing. Called back. This time he said if you find out whats wrong call us back and let us know. LOL. Seems they had bought most of them back and this one had escaped.

Mike's familiar with no wood.:ROFLMAO:

The first "injected engine was powered by coal dust in the 1800's. The first patent for "electronic" fuel injection was by Chrysler in the late 40's or early 50's, but I don't remember exactly. It was a carbed engine that used an electric fuel pump. Don't ask me why it was called electronic injection but when it failed, Bosch bought the patent and owns/owned the patent so anyone that wants to use the name "electronic fuel injection" has/had to pay a royalty to Bosch.;) The info is in one of my books but I'd have to do a bit of digging to find an exact quote on dates ect to prove it.

The oldest would be a chrysler in 56/57 with bendix fuel injection....

Thank you for that. I couldn't remember the exact year. I believe the info is in the Bosch Automotive Engineering handbook and I have no idea where mine is.:(

The Chrysler was called electronic because it used an electric fuel pump, even though the controls were mechanical. When it didn't take off Bosch bought the patent rights and Bosch is the one that owned the name and I believe they still do.

No it was electronic because the dist had points in it to pulse the injectors... Check out the old vw electronic fuel injection ..the bendix patent is where it all started..
