i have a 87 GN...it has 3 in. poston headers and dp, 2.5 exhaust, high flow cat, 160 stat, k&n, thrasher chip, 36#...it has new plugs, wires, coil pack, battery, alt...what should i do next? what will give me the most bang for buck...i was thinking fuel pump b/c i think it is still stock...i dont know what i should get...lookin for suggestions..thanks

If you don't already have one(does not say in your sig)get a scan tool. May need that fuel pump first...but definately a scan tool and before you start boosting it.:)

Fuel pump for sure, hot wire kit for pump while you are at it, scan tool is a must and of course a cold air kit. :D

Even before the new pump, I would suggest an adjustable regulator, and install an electric fuel pressure guage. The electric is more expensive than the mechanical ones, but it can be in the car with you safely. This way you can see what your pump is doing during full throttle runs. If the pressure is following recommended specifications, the pump is fine. Even with an upgraded pump, I would have it this way. They (new pumps) can go bad too, and then you'll be more likely to know before you wreck something else. Someone will probably say at this point, you can mount a mechanical guage with a long hose at the windshield wiper area. This is a temporary setup that can't tell of any changes, just current conditions.

Of course as all agree, a scan tool.

where can i get the Walbro 340 fuel pump and hot wire kit? what does the hot wire kit do? also what about the fuel pressure regulator? should i get all of these? where from? who has the best prices?

Yes a bigger fuel pump, hot wire kit and volt booster for the fuel pump, adj fuel pressure reg. and wastegate a scan tool like everybody said some heavy duty valve springs do you have a rjc power plate? if not get it.. :D dont forget the cold air kit if you didn't already do so. uhh uhh after that than go with bigger mods

you can go to mike fujita,he sells everything,
I can take you there when your ready to buy,
just let me know when.

Jose-

Wouldn't that be more like Mike will sell you everything whether you need it or not ;) .

If you can wait a few days order from one of the vendors on this messageboard. They are all competitively priced.

fuel pump, hot wire kit, Adj FPR, adj WG and scantool (ScanMaster is the most convenient) all at the same time.

If your engine has stock valvesprings I would suggest changing them also. About $40 for the springs and probably around 5hrs for labor.

Dump in some 100 octane (unleaded to be safe with your cat) and turn up the boost/fuel pressure slowly and tune with the scan tool. 21psi is about the max boost a stock turbo is good for. Past that it loses efficency fast.

That will make your car sizzle with 20psi+ boost on the stock turbo and a good safe tune. I like to run an EGT guage to tell me my state of tune and be more precise. It does require drilling a hole in the passenger side header just before where the turbo bolts up.

3 things, IMO

1. A Scanmaster
2. Fuel pump w/hotwire kit
3. Track time

See too many people with a buttload of mods on a car that has trouble breaking out of the 13's. IMO, you're wasting your money unless you know you're getting improvement (faster).
Sounds like there might be some mismatched mods on the car now...run it and post the results.

hey oaktown why not buy from where you had bought stuff before like when you had your first gn?

Your next few mods should have nothing to do with making more power and everything to do with keeping your car alive.

1) Scantool
2) Fuel system (pump, hotwire, regulator)
3) Spring Cleaning
4) All the other free or cheap mods that haven't been done yet (TB bypass etc.)
5) remove cat/dump pipe
6) Alky injection (or ProPain) should be the first thing you do to actually go faster and will help the engine survive also.

ok i am going to get a scanmaster definitly and all the fuel stuff...i like the alky injection idea...

the problem with my car now is that it seems it boosts at the wrong time...i have had 2 other turbo buicks that were stock that boosted better than this car...im just not gettin that turbo buick feeling...the boost doesnt kick in as hard as i think it should...it starts to pull nicely around 10 psi but then it jumps up and i have to let off or it will sputter a little...i got a 92 chip but it is 91 out here in CA...could that be something?...also im reading from the stock boost gauge so that could be false...whatever the case...im off to look for a scanmaster, im going to put in my vdo boost gauge soon and see what it says...if anyone has a scanmaster for sale let me know...cuz that is what i need to make sure this thing is running right...
