Barrett Jackson is the place for people with too much money and only limited car knowledge.

Some of the mopars that rolled across the block for $150-200K wouldn't even get a first place trophy at a "local" mopar show in the carolina's in "stock" class, so basically they are "drivers".

Obviously bought by someone who has never daily driven an old Mopar.

..some things to remember fellas....when you get close to that car, it's rough, really rough, it's all about horsepower with that car....not to offend anyone, but I'm suprised it went for that much.

you must not have ever seen this car up close! plus the car just got new paint. the car has never been rough. last year at indy it had a few scratchs but thats it.

Gotta disagree with the car being "Rough"... I've personally worked on it it's not *rough*.

The Gallina's are friends of mine and are all but solely responsible for getting me into Stock and Super stock racing in which I have held many national records like the Gallinas.

Hope you bought the car back John & Marka - That was near thievery!

Did you know...

John and Marka Gallina's SS/DX '87 GN that was on the auction today is the FASTEST CAR EVER in NHRA Super Stock competetion? Beating out all the SS/AA Hemi Cuda's and Darts by over half a second? It is one bad ASS car!

What needs to still be stock to classify as Super Stock. I mean, his motor looks nothing like a stock motor so I am just wondering what, if anything, is still stock in the motor.

Nothing has to be stock really in Super Stock. Now Stock Eliminator is a different story (that's what I run). It has to be nearly ALL stock.

In John's class... the SS/DX class, he has to maintain a certain weight to cubic inch limit. Which in his case is 209 Cubic inches. Smaller than the original 3.8 that came in the car! The car weighs over 3000 pounds and is checked after every run. Make no mistake, it's ALL RACE CAR. There is nothing streetable or stock about this car. It is the original body from the firewall back and I believe that the frame rails from the firewall to just before the rear axle are stock. Front and back halves are aftermarket.

SS/DX used to be a Comp Eliminator class and was shoved into Super Stock a few years ago by NHRA.

Thanks for the info.

Whoever purchased that car stole it and I'm sorry Big Daddy but you're out in left field. That car was at the Nationals last year and the last thing it was was rough. You must be thinking of someone else. I thought it looked amazing and Karl was saying for what it went for he would of bought it, worth way more then that. Hopefully they were able to get it back. Barret Jackson is not the place for race car, especially when you have dumb and dumber telling you about the cars. They don't know ****. And that's the daily drives that show up. The one guy supposedly is a race car driver, on what planet is all I want to know?

Speed was showing shots of the cars in the parking lot waiting for auction and when it was out there, it was the only car that had a large crowd of people around it.

47k was a steal and I agree that it won't change hands for that. If I was there I'd be trying to sell the wife to buy it. :D

How often do they have to push the car across the stage? Looked pretty bad if I didn't know about this car.

It rolled on to the stage running, I could hear it, not sure why they push them off stage though.

I saw the car on Sunday, and I can say that the car is definitely not rough looking. It is a good looking car for being a race car. I didn't realize that the car had gone for so little. What a shame!

I wish I had money for the TTA they are selling...

dont know why. but they would not let me start the car again. they pushed me up to the selling block. and pushed me off stage and out the door. when i got outside they had a guy get in the car and drive back to the parking spot with me. nothing wrong with the car.

Jamie; I was on top of that car in Indy, it was rough. If that car is worth 47,000 then your car is worth 100,000.

Why doesn't this car run SS/AA, I thought those were the fastest.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. :D

Those are the "traditional" super stocks. The SS/X cars are usually FWD cars with a rear wheel drive conversion. They are more the "what if" class (like what if you could get a Cavilier with a Camaro V8?), vs. the traditional SS/Letter cars that came that way from the factory.

I was at the auction on Thursday, and spoke to John. He said he had no intention of letting it go too cheap, and was prepared to buy it back (I guess that means paying B-J both the buyer's and sellers premiums in order to keep the car.) He'd had an understanding with B-J just in case, becuase there were NO Reserves allowed this year - that's right, all the cars were "no reserve."

So did it sell then or did he pay B-J $7,500 and keep it?
