I have a 1000 miles on a gentle street driven tranny and I am having the same problems that caused the previuos rebuild. Tranny was built with components to handle 11 sec but installed by the local guy. The previuos rebuild was caused by the torque conveter busting appart inside and trashing out the tranny. This time the symtems are beginng the same again.

Order of systems as follows:

1. Switching from D to OD when driving it feels like some rear ended me
2. checked connections with the brake pedal switch took it out for another test drive and lost overdrive. OD worked then quit.
3. Going home after TC quit locking up and i now it will not go into third

Questions ?

Tranny fluid is clean and not burnt smelling so is this just anohter bad torque converter or is there something setup in my tranny that could be starving the TC for fluid. I will be pulling this out myself this witner .

any ideas?

how well were the tranny lines flushed? Sounds like something is letting go possibly jamming up the valve body. Thats just my first guess. good luck with it. I would drop the pan and see how it looks in there

When I brought it in they flushed the valve body and the coolant lines for a very long time before the reassembly. If I drop the pan and find no metal pieces and replace the TC would that fix it, or once third gear is gone I am SOL.

Did you have a new hardened stator support installed? I hope so. If you did, did the shop just push it in? You really need to have the pump cover resurfaced wiith a new stator support, or it may not run true! PTS claims only 1 in 20 will line up perfect. See:

also, did you have the pump bushing replaced? Is there enough clearance between the pump & flywheel?

a stator support being a few thousandths off will not cause this type of problem.in my beliefs this area of research and thought does not have significant effects on performance because the converters stator and roller clutch assembly all float .tolerances are incorporated into the design to compensate for maching errors / tolerances between the engines mounting flange and bellhousing, the crankshaft pilot and converter pilot, the flexplate and converter mounting pads, the pump rotor and converter drive hub ,the turbine and input shaft, and the stator and stator support.if the support off a few thousandths aggravated stator support wear it would be visible in the type of wear marks left on the supports splines .this wear is almost always uniform.i would lean towards a valve body ,plate ,or checkball influencing these problems.
