I am looking into getting a Merchant Account and I was wondering who some of you use for the services, how much you pay per month and is there anything specific that I need to be aware of? Something simple is all I need that will handle credit and debit cards.

TIA

Funny you should ask! Just started one a couple of weeks ago with authorizenet.com You have to go thru a reseller and I used these guys. http://www.MerchantPlus.com No setup charges and believe the fees are around $25 a month plus 2.29% on transactions and 25 cents per transactions.

I wanted to give my customers another choice besides Paypal which a lot of people don't like. It costs me more but hopefully more people will buy stuff.

Lot of paperwork to fill out but so far it is working great.

TTT..

Thanks Mark!
I'll check it out. Anybody else have a recommendation or info?

Mark,
I am in the beginning stages of learning this and if I am correct I will need a "shopping cart" section and a "payment section". I have read that some services have the shopping cart as an extra cost then I still need the payment section. Did both of these come with the package or did you have to create the shopping cart yourself? I do my own web developing as I learn it so I am trying to figure out what I need to know. I am hoping to just link to a shopping cart section so I don't have to do any programming.

Why don't you talk to your banker. They are usually more than happy to help and might be more competitive price wise. Also try Paymentech we have used them

Thanks, Mike. I just spoke with the bank this morning and it was going to cost me over $1000 to get set up with them including all the software they wanted to sell me.. What a joke that was..
I have also learned that some web hosting companies offer a free Shopping Cart so I'm checking into my host..

...still learning :)

I went through Costco. 1.82% and .20 per transaction.

The fees add up fast if you're doing a high gross so shop around for the best.
