Tee shirts are a one time shot in the arm.

A bunch of us will buy them, but we won't purchase another until the one we bought wears out.

There are a limited number of us out there, just as there are a limited number of our cars out there.

Mind you, I am all for the shirts and would buy more than one.

However, if TB.com were to start selling shirts to support the site an inventory of all sizes and varieties would need to be kept, creating a whole new headache for the guys who run the site, or a profit/loss center for the guy who decides to take on the challenge of providing tee shirts to all of us and keeping us happy with the design.

I sort of like the auction idea, but I think a raffle type thing might appeal to more people, just like the one currently being offered on this site where one of us will win a new kick butt radiator.

I'm pretty certain if you were to somehow feature the person donating an item for raffle by showing pictures of his car, his garage, his family or whatever he wants to brag on, you would have plenty of us stepping up with an item or two.

I bet the same theory would work with vendors, too. If they donate that month, their ad cycles twice as many times or something....

I don't know...... maybe I'm just dreaming, but at least I'm trying.

I will say this though, you will need to make the raffle a LOT easier to donate to than the one giving away the radiator........

That guy should be thankful I'm persistant, 'cause that one is a REAL pain in the patoot to donate to.

I'm jus' sayin'.

T-shirts is a good idea, but still more work for the site.:frown:Just make a flat rate fee and move on.I get alot from this site so why not just pay for what we get. I pay for cable TV and their is nothing but crap on their(hmmm) Think of ot like this "Turbo Buick For Members Only" LOL
I still think a poll would tell us what the majority wants.;)

I'd pay a fee to access the site, now that I know how valuable it can be......

But a straight up fee just to veiw the site would probably send new and potential veiwers/members elsewhere.

I would think new and potential members would be something to consider quite seriously.

In a few days you will no longer have access here. I am going to be blocking forum viewing if you're running an ad blocker.

Its not a ban or anything and if you disable the ad blocker, you will be able to view the forums again but yea. Im going to put a stop to people blocking the ads.

bummer.. but i guess it's a good way to save money on bandwidth if no one can access the site if they run Firefox with the basic adblockers that are included with the browser are turned on.
i can't speak for anyone else, but i'm not shutting off the adblockers just to get on one site.
and i don't know if it matters, but about half of the "Haterade" ads now actually show up despite my browser settings. the flash based ones don't but the other ones do.

i also have access to very reasonable T shirt printing if needed. My son did screen printing for a large sporting goods place and I have a client that owns a shop that does most of the Harley shirts. A TB.com shirt would be great for everyone and would create some cash flow especially the long sleeve variety, but the exclusive design that contributors only would receive would keep larger cash flow coming from new contributors.

Whether it's a car show, a web site, or what ever. If you try to extract money from people to cover the costs, people turn away.

However, If you can spin it into a fun/ donation type deal, then your a hero.

Here's just one way you could fleece the flock...Opps, I ment raise some dough to help offset the costs.;)

Monthly T-shirt contest.
Sell nice (very nice) TB.com T-shirts for a profitable sum. Say, thirty bucks plus shipping. Have a photo contest that is judged by admin and/or mods, with person(s) wearing shirt in some "interesting" place or setting. Photos would need to be "in good taste" and be posted in a "TB.com T-shirt photo" section. The monthly winner would earn something cool, like a new alum TA block and heads, with custom brushed and ceramic coated Wilson manifold to match my other parts. If this is a bit too optomistic, first place could get,

*Name/pic posted somewhere "special" for the month.

*Ban anyone for a week. (personal favorite).

*Mod of the Political or So. Western Section for a day. (That's as long as anyone would want the job).:D

Run the contest for a year and see how it goes. At worst, you'd have fun and get publicity.

Two ways of getting money. Doing something like this will gain veiwers, posts and be shown at many car shows. Charging fees will loose veiwers and posts. T-shirt sales could be done threw one (or more) of the vendors here. These vendors would get many new clients who might also buy parts while they're getting a shirt. Every year we'd buy that year's shirt for a chance to post up a cool pic and win something.

Maybe this sounds stupid, but this crap works.

Happy spooling

How about anyone that has more than 50% of their threads in the FS forum pays $20 every quarter to continue posting?

This would work but I will also say that if you have a for sale add put a $1 fee per item sold, except for vendors. It's not that much per item and considering how many items are sold on the board it isn't that much. It will also keep a lot of scammers off the board if they have to pay since most of them are just trying to scam members on the board. Also add rules like a minimum post count before anyone could post an item for sale.

Even if you just did it at a 1% of the total sold for a car or parts you would be able to keep the site solvent. Look at money it would generate doing this. I mean 1% of a $5K car is only $50 for the advertising and on evilbay you loose a lot more of your money. This is even cheaper that using the classified adds in the paper or most online adds.:)

Instead of a paid site for everyone, what about optional paid subscriptions? Those that choose to pay a small monthly/quarterly/yearly subscription get some perks. More PM space, ability to block certain threads, no ads, access to cool smileys that unpaid members can see but can't use themselves. Paid members get a cool T-Shirt that can't be purchased. Only paid members can participate in the giveaways. Paid members get their screen name in a different color showing their support of the site. I can come up with more but you get the idea.

This would be the best place to start....... Maybe 2 or 3 levels of donations for perks. Then see how much cash flow you can generate..... If you are not a paying member maybe you get 1 sale item per quarter. any more and there should be a nominal 1 time per year fee. Shirts are cool but not the answer as stated above. This would allow you to leave the ads in place for the masses and still cash in on them...Just my 2 cents.

Here's another idea.

Make all those that feel it's their duty as a 'murican to post in the political forum pay 10 cents per post.

Now THAT would be the place to start, yes it would!

I knew you would like that one  I still have about a dozen t6p shirts I still wear on the weekends..... A lot of good ideas here, I like the membership idea as well with 2 or 3 levels.

By the way, the first time someone bitched cause they paid a fee and then got banned, well tough crap you shouldnt have done something to get banned in the first place.

This is an example, see what each membership gets..

Sorry didnt realize you had to log in to PS.org to see it.

Basically a $20 a year fee, $60 lifetime member, and $100 Platinum Lifetime or something like that with various perks.
