I think there is a lot of great information here. I'm excited to get mine up and running and think I can bring some new things to the table with my background in electronics. Once I am done I will do a write up on integrating a Megasquirt EFI system, and Microsquirt Trans controller which will be able to control either a 4L60E or 4L80E with all the benefits to go with them.

I really feel there is a future in this swap being utilized by many people. The biggest thing is someone or a group of people supplying the parts to make this a bolt in swap since many on here are not capable of the fabrication or mechanical thinking involved in such a swap.

No it won't . If your after 600+ hp I think this is a good idea. If your looking for around 450hp or so stick with the 4l60e.

We have some very good trans. venders here. Lonnie offers a good 60E, however if you don't really need the gear changes, as in your case, why use them? Lonnie offers an adapter, I believe. ( I may be lieing, I'm going from memory! LOL!)

Must not have anyone down there that can build a 4l60. I've built plenty of 4l60e's that's are happy with 5-600 hp. Lonnie in agree's . Not necessary till your making some real power. If I was making your power Dan and it was a street car I'd agree.

Not saying you cant build one to take the grunt but at what cost? The amount of hard parts you need to keep one healthy compared to a basicly stock 80e is not worth it. With the glide in ours it doesnt even feel like a 2 speed. Ive run 9s off the foot brake taking off in 2nd.

For a heads up racing I think your glides a great choice and has worked great for you.

The hards parts aren't that expensive. I've got friends with 4l80's that have broke the mid shaft and stripped the input , so the80
Will need updates depending on HP. But I've built hundreds of them for heavy trucks and the 4l80e is a great tranny.

I just choose a 60 but each to his own! It's all good.

500$ sonnex smart drum/ harden shaft is the most expensive but it's really a great piece. Billet input after 500hp. Around 300$. The rest is just normal updates clutches/ band/ servo/ 5 gear planets / hardened sunshell/ VB mods. Basically building a 4l70e.

I just used the Speedway motors adapter Plate ( I think you used one in your writeup) really easy to install, and worked with circle D on getting me a converter that would work. I fit it up with the factory converter from the van my trans came from and it was much to big and the converter mounting lugs hit the starter. After taking some measurements and calling Chris at Circle D converters who I have used for all our LS 4L80Es we got something figured out which should work great and require minimal to no modifications to use. We have a 4500# truck with a $150 junkyard 4L80E in it with a Circle D and a Transo HD2 kit in it that makes 819WHP and 882TQ and its been together for 3 years now with a lot of miles and road trips, its one of many Turbo/Nitrous LS combos we have built using ultra cheap junkyard/Craigslist $100-300 4L80Es with only the $120 HD2 kits and not one has ever failed. I have failed several 60Es myself and seen a bunch of friends frag "Built" 60Es in light cars, I always hear people say they can make them last (and maybe it can be done for $$$) but I can't think of someone who hasn't broke one making over 600WHP. Most of the guys just end up putting 80Es in.

Like Brian said different strokes for different folks. For me however the 80E was an easy choice, and I was glad to trad off some weight and difficulty of build (adapting it) for reliability, power capacity, and cost.

I finally got around to finishing the front cover and just need to powder coat it now. I have everything set in place for the pictures. You can see I fabricated a custom water inlet that is slightly larger than factory to make sure I have no coolant flow problems or pump cavitation, and used the tiny heater core inlet to put a 8AN fitting on for running lines to my heater core in a clean fashion. I haven't pressed the balancer on (reason for crank pulley misalignment) because I'm waiting for the machined adapter hub to come back from the machine shop, for now I'm just using my 3D printed one for fitup.

Do you have the tensioner pulley mounted directly to the block?

It's mounted to the bracket, the accessories are bolted identical to the way the GN is.
