Why do people Hate my TR?

Whenever I go to school and park my car, I dont hear the end of it... how that POS running, when are you gonna race me, scrap it, get that sht out of the shop, why dont you sell it, why dont you trade it, and your car runs like sht and burns gas, get a good car. I mostly hear this from young people my age who DONT think the car is worth a dime and that I was a fool for not trading it for a crown vic. I am tired of hearning about it and want to know what should I do.....? It doesnt make me ashamed to drive my car, as it is my DD and I love it. Yes every day something else goes wrong with my car, a little oil is burning, windshield wipers dont turn off, windows wont roll down, tops leak a little, heater core dont work, rear defroster works when it wants to. But I will say older poeople who know what the car is respect it a bit more. I have had random people approach me and make me offers on my car while im driving at a red light, people at the store commenting on it, which help a little bit. But people at school or my friends just hate on it everyday.

I have found that people either love em or hate em. It mostly depends on their age. They do tend to hate them a lot more after getten spanked tho.

Let me quess, most of this is coming from punks that think honda's are cool or rich kids that have parents stupid enough to buy them new cars. Either way they are idiots and not worth your time or energy. Its your car and you SHOULD be proud of it ! Sounds like you are learning as you go and that is a good thing man, when your fixing your own for 300 bucks and they are paying a shop 1300 you will get the last laugh for sure. Wish you were closer to me, I would give the loudest mouth punk there a ride in my car and then charge him for getting the passenger side seat cleaned from him pissing himself ! Until you have a turbo regal you really have no idea of what the dark side is all about, so just tell them to piss off and enjoy your car !

everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if they don't know jack about cars why worry about it. heck it's paid for, so only money is upkeep. no worries about repo's if you can make the payments or your parents cant. people who really know cars have respect and know what we have. regardless just shake your head and laugh while your walking off.

When I had my first TR, I had bought it after getting crushed by one in my Camaro(I thought it was a monty:redface Bad mistake... I always had the odd looks. In fact when I'd go down to the cruising spots and the beach, I'd park it quietly out of the way while the guys in Mustangs blasted their stereos and revved their engines showing off... (This was a some years before hondas were being riced out)

Then one of them asked me if I was gonna run "that thing". I told him (in a group of like 20 people) that I did not want to embarrass him. You should have heard all the oohhs and aaahhhs. I knew that he'd take the bait. He said his bad a$$ 5.0 had this and that and I told him that if he wanted a spanking that I'd accomodate him.

So he runs to his car and starts it up and revs and tells everyone that it's on. The whole place clears out and we head out to a super long straight stretch of road. He was in a hurry to get beat and we actually got there before anyone else. He didn't want to wait (I suspect that he didn't want an audience). I had my windows down and told him that he could signal the start. We were rolling at about 15 20mph at this time.

I counts down and punches it before the last count and takes off. I press the gas but don't floor it as I'm trying to be a contortionist trying to roll up the super slow power windows and drive at the same time.

In seconds, I'm next to him. He looks over. I beep the horn and wave and proceed to suck the paint off his car. I was going so fast I thought I was going to lift off. I pull over and wait, listening to the radio. He finally shows up and you shoulda seen the look on his face. Priceless. He then has the audacity to ask me if I thought he gave me a run. I said yeah until I took it out of neutral.

Needless to say I didn't see him around much after that and the Legend was born. It got so bad my friends would challenge people with my car!


Point of all this rambling? This is an awesome car. Yes, it can be a real PITA at times. But really, what car isn't? Who gives a crap what those other idiots think. They just don't know. They have no clue.

Take your time, learn to work on your car. Make it nice and fast. Be prepared.
One of these days the time will come. You'll see. When that day comes you too will understand. Maybe another Legend will be born.

EXACTLY lol, my friends do that to me to, they just tell them its a granny grunt regal with a v6 and I think its bad. Brings out the suckers like flies to honey lol. Is mine the fastest car out there? Why of course not but you better pack a lunch if you want some of it to lol. Last time out it ran 11.77 on 16 lbs of boost, the very last time out I had the boost at 25lbs and twisted the axle in half on the line grrrrrrrrr. The new rear end will be able to handle it when I get it done !!!!

You bought the car because you like it, not your friends. It may not be perfect but no car is. You're working to make it better and learn about it at the same time. The guys that are giving you problems don't see it and that's fine. When their cars are in the salvage pile yours will be in decent shape and worth more than theirs. You have an antique for one thing and a fairly rare car. Most of them will never be able to have the oportunity to own a rare vehicle much less appreciate it. If you don't like it get a (God forbid) Honda or some other cheap throw away.:biggrin:

i have people always wanting to race me when i was in high school. i hated that; i think the only reason was because the car was loud idk. i never got bad things said about my car everyone thought it was bad a**. it could be because i have a 85 and a cool hood and fender vents:tongue:.lol

Man...you gotta hear the people that come over and think I'm an idiot for puttin on this "RED GREEN" show in the garage I tell them, "yeah, it looks like a freakin train wreck, but it will kick your car's ass and haul a trunk full of groceries home when I'm done. Fluck you, go home!" My wife even knows these cars are bad ass, she just hates mine because it still looks like a rusty beer can.
